Has anyone here shaved someone else using a DE?

I'm thinking about shaving my friend. He is stuck on using his electric razor and will not consider anything else..period. Is there anything I need to watch out for such as disinfecting items like razor, brush etc. He is always getting bumps around his neck and also the electric razor doesn't shave some hairs in his neck, if that makes sense. Should I even give this a try?

I shaved the bride's legs with a DE (Lady Gillette) and I was nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

I wouldn't do it. It might be better to just lend him a razor and brush and walking him through the procedure.

I'd give it a go. Sometimes its easier to shave someone else than yourself. Its easier to control all the aspects of shaving, angle, pressure, and you can move in any direction to get at different spots. You're not looking in a mirror, and you're seeing things right up close with nothing to obstruct your vision. :thumbup1:

I have shaved my wife's legs also.

Honestly, I would let him do it and guide him through the process. Even though we have lots of fun talking about it, shaving is a very personal thing and it is best to not cross that line, even if he is your best friend.

Plus he will have to do it by himself sooner or later.

I have never shaved anyone's face. I shaved the back of my brother's neck once. I am not sure I would want to tackle someone else's chin.

I shave my brother every few days. I had to place my brother in a care facility back in november for severe parkinsons disease. Before that I had never shaved anyone before. My brother is 71 years old and always took great pride in his grooming. Now though he is unable to take care of himself. As a brother I feel a desire to help care for him. I purchased a complete kit for shaving including a straight from Dovo (Bismark 6/8), Merkur progress Razor, Dirty Bird scuttle, Col. Littleton #2 shave Kit, Simpson Case Best Badger Brush, Assorted Em's Place Balms, Assorted shaving creams and other items needed.
The first time I shaved him I was worried because he is on Plavix, a blood thinner. After the first time all worries seemed to fade. Everything came off without a single weeper. I throw my BlueTooth in his ear, he talks to friends, I pretend I'm the barber. Bonding takes place.:thumbup1:

That's truly awesome.

I had to start shaving my dad when he was in the hospital almost 2 years ago now.
At 76 years old, he fell down the basement stairs and landed on the back of his head. Rushed to the nearest trauma hospital, we were told he had multiple skull fractures, blood was getting inside the skull and clotting, and they had to operate. They literally took out a piece of his skull, removed the clotting, and put the piece back in. He was "unconscious" for 2 weeks...
All we could do was go to visit all the time, talk to him, hope and pray. He had a cervcial collar on, and the hairs under it much have itched like the dickens, cause the old man was pulling on that thing like you couldn't believe. I don't think I could have pulled harder if I had a pit bull latched onto me.
Well the nurses tried to shave him, but it wasn't all that good. So, I put together a travel kit to use at the hospital. Dad's 1966 Superspeed and a bunch of other goodies. I couldn't let him move around much without that cervical collar fastened, but we did OK and he didn't try to rip it off anymore.

OK OK I'll let you all off the hook, Dad came back to us.

I continued to shave him every few days once he went to the rehab as well. The ladies there thought I was crazy I think when I showed up and got pans of hot water and stole extra towels to use. :)

The only lasting issue from the fall is that he's none too stable on his feet anymore, so he has a walker or two he uses if he wants. He knows who we all are, reads, writes, etc...really miraculous to be honest.

I still give him a proper shave about once a week now. He really appreciates a fresh clean shave, of course I give him the whole works.
I can't say that I ever appreciated my dad more.
