Had an accident today!

$photo.jpg

I was visiting a client near Crown Center and after I wandered down to check out a pen store I hears about. Well after spending about an hour or so there I walked out with a Lamy Safari in Apple Green and a Rhodia dot pad. The prices aren't the best there, but are comperable after shipping from the online guys and I was able to support a local business.

Now half as wise
I am envious of anyone who has a store nearby that they can walk into. IMO that's really the best way to get introduced to fountain pens. You can see and hold different pens and try different nibs.

I would not have had nearly as much restraint!

Mark - if you ever make it over to Cincinnati, there is a shop called Appointments in the old Carew tower. The proprietor is a friend of mine as is his sidekick. They have been selling writing implements for years. http://www.411pens.com/OurStore/index.html

That "accident" could have been sooooo much worse. I shudder to think what I would leave with if I had access to a good brick and mortar fountain pen/fine stationery shop.

I got back into fountain pens over xmas and I found 2 brick and mortar stores near me, not counting an annoying one in the air port. I've kept my pen buying online but I usually can't walk out of a store without a new bottle of ink to try.

Sweet, that's the 2012 special edition Safari, they won't make that colour again. You can't go wrong with Rhodia.

Thanks guys, so far I'm really liking this pen, it's a lot smoother than I expected it to be. It was really nice being able to try out the different nibs, it made it easy to decide that I really didn't like the 1.5 italic like I thought I would.

They really don't carry much in the paper and stationary line other than the basics, moleskene and rhodia, but I have access to all the fine paper I want since I work at a commercial printing company. The best part is that they are fairly competitive in their prices compared to the few online venders that I like to use.

Accident. Yeah, right.

One of the benefits of working in the CBD of a large city, I walk past two pen stores just to get to work each morning.

It's not like I'm silly enough to go in.

These accidents are totally preventable. :biggrin1:

I had a similar accident at the Pen Place. Walked in, looked around, walked out with a bottle of Pelikan Royal Blue ink.

I've been in that pen store too.... OMG THEY HAVE SO MANY PENS!!!!!!!

The clerk was not very outgoing or helpful... but still!

:( the thread title gave me comfort in not being alone, then it was just a really nice acquisition. .. one day ill get someone with a real accident so I can laugh at someone elses cat, dog, or monkey...

Till then cool having a great store near you

[offtopic] There's also an artisan soap maker right across the hall from that pen store. Their shaving soaps leave a little to be desired in the lather area, but they make great preshave face cleaning soaps. I think all their soaps are hot process. [/offtopic]

James, you will always be first in our hearts and minds when thinking of pen accidents!

I'm ruined a nib on Parker 51 by dropping it and I've lost a bottle of BSIAR by having it wiggle out and fall out of my bag... Luckily both are still replaceable.
