Gunk under blades and Proraso

I noticed something interesting while shaving last night. It was my first time shaving with Proraso. I was using the soft "soap" tub for sensitive skin, Aloe and Green Tea. On the first pass I noticed more "gunk" buildup under the razor. I ran it under the faucet and shook it like crazy under water in the sink but it was stuck. I stuck with it and finished my first pass. Then I loosened the razor and running water through the head got most of it out. I re-tightened and went for a second pass. This time it gunked up even worse! :thumbdown

I disassembled the razor and clumps of proraso and whiskers were stuck pretty well to the blade and head. I had to use a toothbrush to get it off. I tossed the blade as well (probably had one more shave in it).

Anyone had a similar experience? I've never ran into a product gumming up the razor like this. :cursing:

You need to try adding just a little more water to your lather. With soft soaps, it's pretty easy to overload the brush and end up with too thick lather. At the newbie stage, it's much better to overload than underload your brush so that you have a lather that provides enough cushion and protection from the blade.

However, you need to add the proper amount of water to ensure that your lather is not too thick or too thin. If the lather is gumming up the blade, it's too thick. Try adding more water one teaspoon at a time until you get the perfect consistency. It should be thick and cushiony enough with peaks but not like super thick paste or dehydrated oatmeal. You also don't want it too foamy and airy. Try doing some practice lathers until you get the correct ratio with this soap.

Also, take the blade that you were using and toss it in the trash. All that gunk probably dulled the hell out of your blade, and the toothbrush scrubbing isn't good for the types of coatings that are on razor blades.

It felt great, but definitely thick. I'll try adding some more water tomorrow morning. thanks guys.

Yep. I tossed the blade, I just scrubbed the razor itself.
