Guess I'm gonna work on my Straight technique

As my wife and I are living apart due to school/work, I don't get to see her very much during the semester. I got the opportunity to spend the next two weeks in our beautiful condo by the lake, and in my rush to pack, I left all of my DE blades at home..... I brought 2 straights (Seraphim customized GDs) a Dovo Shavette, a Feather SS/AC, a 37c, and a Slim Adjustable. I have blades for the shavette and the Feather, but I haven't heard any reviews on the Walmart brand DE blades, but I think I'm just gonna focus on my straight technique.

Sounds like a plan. Short, confident (fake it) strokes while keeping the skin taut should do it. At the beginning too many use slow, careful strokes which often leads to uncomfortable shaves. I usually shave North to South on the first pass to keep things simple. The second pass is mostly ATG or South to North.

Good luck with that! I'm looking to acquire my first straight razor so I can start learning how to use one.

www.whippeddog.com is an amazing source for first time straights. The sight unseen deal includes a shave ready straight (really is shave ready, not just a claim). It might not be the most aesthetically pleasing piece on the market, but its priced well and if you decide its not for you its not that much lost. You can also get a beginner's strop and a balsa strop for a low price in a packaged deal. I can't speak highly enough about Larry's customer service either. All around just a great business. Good luck to you sir!

Yeah, this is a perfect time to get your straight technique in order. I've been straight shaving for over 4 years now, and I'm still working to get my own technique even better. Just go at it slow and easy, and be sure to lay off of any pressure.
