Good Sandalwood Soap?

I've been using AoS Sandalwood Cream and LOVING the scent! However, the cream just doesn't have enough slickness for my taste. Great smell, meh performance. The smell is important, though. Something about the smell of sandalwood keeps me nice and calm and is just perfect for me in the morning, especially when the morning is cold or wet. I love waking up to that smell.

I'd just pick up AoS, but it's pretty pricey and from what I've heard it's gone through some changes recently - Plus it's also my understanding that the smell isn't as strong.

I've looked into TOBS as well, but it's my understanding there that their Sandalwood is more like a cologne like smell than a natural sandalwood scent.

What's the best Sandalwood Soap you've used? Both performance wise and scent?

I have been using Edwin Jagger Sandalwood scent for about a year. It smells wonderful. I cant compare it to AoS but the lather is good for me kinda of soapy not as thick as Van der hagen luxury glycerin but again its a wonderful scent.

Parker shea butter and sandalwood soap, 100% natural veggie soap. Couldn't believe how great the lather felt on my face and how the face felt after the shave, great soap!

My experience is that the AoS Sandalwood soap scent is at least as strong as the cream if not stronger. In my opinion, you won't get closer to pure sandalwood with any other product, unless you can get your hands on QED soap - but I haven't seen the QED sandalwood scent available for a while - it may be discontinued. I can't vouch for the performance of the new AoS formulation but others seem to think it's decent.

Sandalwood oil has become prohibitively expensive. I expect it will be harder and harder to find AoS style sandalwood scents as time goes on. I've tried at least 3 other sandalwood products where I couldn't even tell sandalwood was in the mix. It's a shame because I agree - it's a fantastic scent.

I would tend to agree that the TOBS does something of a cologne smell. I enjoy it, but it's definitely not a natural scent. I'm a big fan of the Proraso sandalwood (red tub). I was blown away the first time I cracked that tub and almost immediately placed a follow up order with Italian Barber just to make sure I could get more while it was on sale.

It's not strictly a soap -- more of a "croap" -- but Queen Charlotte's Mysore Sandalwood rocks, both in terms of scent and performance. It's scented w/real sandalwood oil & smells, well, just like sandalwood. :w00t: In fact, I liked it so much that I had Matthew make me an extra heavily-scented version.

So many options... So little change in the bank account... If one soap would stand out over the others it'd really make things easier for me! :D

You might try Ogallala bay rum and sandalwood. I like Ogallala soaps a lot. Not too pricey. Lots of slick lather. Good scents.

I agree that TOBS sandalwood soap is a cologne-like scent rather than a true sandalwood. However, I love the scent and think that the performance is good. I enjoy it! Have the aftershave and edt, as well.

If you want something scented w/real sandalwood, you're gonna have to pony up. As another member accurately pointed out, sandalwood oil is pricey & becoming ever more pricey day by day. But if you don't care so much about it smelling like actual sandalwood, there are any # of "sandalwood interpretations" available that are less expensive.

I really enjoy AOS Sandalwood (old version) elegant stuff, for sure. Great scent and wonderful lather - scent reminds me of fine antiques! I also am a fan of QCS Celestial Woods (soap version)- but that's a blend. Has Mysore sandalwood mixed w cedar and pine - smells like a forest :)

Sandalwood essential oil is one the most expensive essential oils in existence. A bottle of it can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. If you want a soap that smells like real sandalwood, the cost will, unfortunately, be high.

My first bar of GFT's sandalwood was sublime --very much sandalwood, not flowery at all. I loved it. It lasted me a good long time. I bought another bar recently, and it's awful. It is flowery, fragrancy, not what I would even call "sandalwood." Not my cup of tea. So, I guess there are sandalwoods, and there are sandalwoods.

Which ones smell more like wood and less like flowers?

Just so we are all clear, I'm not anti-price. I do, however, want to do my best to get it right the first time. A good performer with a good, natural Sandalwood scent. If it costs me 30-40 bucks for a puck, not a big deal. It'll be an every now and then soap anyway, weekends and special days off.

I'd be willing to make a soap with pure sandalwood eo, but it would cost $40 a puck and there would have to be 24 seriously interested people. As Matthew said, real sandalwood oil is terribly expensive, like liquid gold! I shudder to think of having an accident with a bottle and dropping it or something! It's not the kind of scent you make unless you know you're going to be able to sell it all.

You can count me as number one then! :w00t: Seriously interested. I'll put 45-50 bucks aside in my account in case you can get 23 others in on it.
