Gifts of Soap and Question

I received a couple of soaps today in the mail that were late. I had mentioned how much I liked Razorock Mudder Focker to some family and they ordered a couple of Razorock soaps as gifts.
I got the XX and XXX. I've heard good things about both so I was really surprised when I open the XX and didn't get any scent at all. None. My wife doesn't smell any either. The XXX has a good scent.
I thought maybe once a lather is made the scent will come out so I went to the bathroom and used it to make up a decent lather but still no smell.
My question is: do any other users of the XX soap not smell anything? Could it be too old?

Ask me about shaving naked!
IMO, it’s old and lost its scent. All the ‘X’ series are scent clones of better known fragrances, and some are not long lived.

Thanks for the reply @Steve56. If this is the case maybe they should put expiration dates on the containers. I expect most folks would purchase these just for the clone aspect.
Now I have a jar of soap that's lost its purpose.

I purchase mostly unscented soaps, so once you get over your initial disappointment you may find it a perfectly acceptable inclusion in your rotation - or it will break your heart until the end of time. Could go either way.

I wanted to post about some more soaps that I recently got. After reading about the quality of Martin de Candre soaps I wanted to give them a go but didn't want to spent the $$$ and end up not liking them. I found some samples (at the same place I ordered the Razorock soaps) and ordered Vetyver and Fougere. The samples arrived in envelopes with the soap wrapped in what looks like wax or parchment paper. Both of them were basically dried out. A slightly damp, caked powder. I complained in my shave report about the Vetyver not having any scent.
I scraped together the "soap" into a pile and placed this in small canning jars. I then pressed them down into pucks.
The Fougere has a decent scent in the jar and today I shaved with it. I have no complaints about either of them as far as their lather quality. However, after completing my shave, I am left with absolutely no leftover scent. My wife couldn't smell any either so I know its not just me.
I've read on this forum all the positive comments about MdC and people loving the different scents. I'm puzzled.
Don't get me wrong. I don't expect nor want a scent as powerful as an aftershave or cologne but I do like a light scent that lasts.

Can any of you that have these two soaps, Vetyver and Fougere, let me know if you can smell the scent after you finish shaving?
I had high hopes for the MdC products. Granted, I did get a great lather but I have inexpensive soaps that also give a great lather.

I guess the scent had probably faded from the samples. MdC soaps aren't hugely in your face scented but they do linger for a bit for me. Maggard sells samples in tiny jars that I assume they fill from a larger container. The ones I bought from them had enough scent to judge them by, but still a little lighter than the full jar.

Shaving soap scents are generally not designed to last past the shave, that's what aftershave is for.

MdC scents are on the gentlemanly side; unobtrusive rather than "look at me"-type cologne scents.

Go Italian if you want your soap to talk with it's hands... 🙂

You are absolutely right as all the Razorock soaps that use the same base @Calyx 's XX and XXX (I've this one) shave well. They also, based on my and others comparisons, provide similar core shaving performance (lathering ease, slickness and stability). The only reason to buy both of these is for the different scents - otherwise it's just a duplicate with no scent.

I've noticed some other Razorock soft Italian shaving soaps with the same or similar base, Classic Italian and the latest version of P.160, also had their scents rapidly dissipate a few months after I started using them. I scoop these soaps and close up the containers after use. My XXX is an exception that has maintained it's scent.

My favorite RazoRock soap is Plague Doctor. I initially bought it for the label at the beginning of covid, but it's become a favorite and I've stockpiled some since. The scent is just soapy, but lather and performance has been great with any brush. I just seem to favor soaps with Argan oil.

To be honest I didn't like the aftershave, and gave my bottle away.

That was my recent experience, too. I bought a few RR soaps during Black Friday. XXX and Emperor have decently strong fragrances, but Acqua, Irish Countryside and Caribbean Holiday all smelled a bit like rendering kettles. They shave just fine, but that's only part of why I bought them.

I recently bought a 200g jar of Vetiver. The scent is definitely present before, during, and not so much after the shave. The only shave soap that I’ve tried that has had a lingering scent afterwards would have to be SV.
