What's new

Gold Dachs

Wow! What a good soap!

I normally go back and forth between Tabac and PDP for my daily shaves, but I reached under the counter today to try something different since I had a lot of time for my shave today. After rifling through a bunch of creams and soaps I had stockpiled over the last year, I pulled out my tin of Gold Dachs. I bought it a while back, and I really wasn't that impressed by it at the time. I figured I'd give it another whirl today. I whipped up a big fat lather on my face, and proceeded to have a "top 5 ever" shave with it and a 38C, and my Shavemac D01. I can't remember what it was the first time I tried it that turned me off of it, but I was sure wrong to just hide it under the sink like that. It smells great, is super slick, cushions really nicely, and just really left my face feeling great.

If you haven't tried the Gold Dachs yet, you really owe it to yourself to give it a spin. It's for sure staying in my rotation now.

Big +1. I recently did a week straight and was extremely happy with how it performed under all variations of lathering.

Agree. Gold Dachs is indeed excellent soap. However, I do not like the very small size of the puck and how it rattles around in the oversized tin. I think this soap would rise to top tier if the puck were made larger and if it were presented in a better container. Pre de Provence is a good example: a large cake of soap completely filling the tin container. Gold Dachs soap itself is superb, however.

I keep mine in an Old Spice mug. Never seemed to move around, but after awhile these things glue themselves pretty solidly to the container. Also I'm on my third or fourth puck, so my last puck was mashed down into the remnants of its brothers into a pretty solid dome-topped mass.

One of my favorite soaps btw.

I've read that the "Rivivage" soap from Classic Shaving(out of stock now), and the Dovo Shave Soap are repackaed Gold Dachs.

Lovely shave this morning with Gold Dachs.

The scent is wonderful and very clean, and the lather has everything you could ask for, cushion and glide and for my face is quite moisturizing.

I can't compare it to another soap, it's really unique.

Gold Dachs is fantastic soap. I like it very much.

In fact, I cleared out my shave den yesterday and put most of my soaps and creams in a box. Only Gold Dachs and D.R. Harris Arlington remained.

I am awaiting a tin of Klar shaving soap, which is often said to be on par with Gold Dachs. I am very anxious to try it.

Where can you get this in Germany? When I visited last and checked out the local Drogerie, I didn't find any Gold Dachs. Lots of Palmolive and some Irisch Moos and Tabac, though.

I think Gold Dachs is the best non-tallow soap that I have ever used. The little round tin it comes in is just right for travel and the soap seems to lather well with any water type. GD is definitely in my top 5 soaps.

I just want to add that I tried this soap this morning. I will use it on a regular basis to make sure that I didn't get the 'great shave' once...

Overall, very nice soap, quite surprised. Good lather.

I must admit that I wasn't impressed with Tabac (scent-wise, not lather-wise). I'm still working with it but the Gold Dachs is an excellent shaving soap and I love the scent!

If it continues to perform like it did today, I think I have a winner in my rotation! I got the Dovo branded Gold Dachs...

I would say the Klar is more reminiscent of MWF than Goldie Dachs, however i would love to know what you think; there aren't too many threads on Klar.

I'm glad this thread rose back up the list. I haven't used the G-D in about 3 weeks, and I think I'll use it tomorrow on 3 days stubble.
