Going Sockless

What shoes do you guys wear for going sans socks in the summer? I had bought a pair of Clark's driving shoes that I really liked, but after 3 weeks of wear the insole denigrated, and I ended up returning them for a store credit. I'm leaning towards a pair of Sperry Billfish, but really like the way the driving shoes look with with shorts or a pair of kackis as well.

The five fingers don't work for me. I actually broke a sweat spending 45 minutes trying to get my gorilla feet into 3 different sizes of them. I went for the NB Minimus instead. As stylish as my blaze orange aqua sock looking shoes are, there are times when a more traditional shoe is more appropriate.

Birkenstocks or flip flops. When I come home after work, being in wellingtons or safety footwear all day, especially in hot weather I like to get some air to my feet (after a shower or the missus complains!).

With shoes I don't like wearing them without socks (I have at least liner socks).

In the house we always go barefoot except in the cold weather when we all have slipper socks. Also we have light coloured carpets, unfortunately the dog is not as fastidious keeping its feet clean.

For formal wear Topsiders, the hue & sole color of course depends on the shorts. When sneaks aren't required, most of the time its NB mules or slides whatever they are properly called. Adidas makes a nice set with a massage feature

Not really an "answer" to your "question" but ...

My preference is against sockless. Socks prevent the sweat and stink that isn't a good thing any way you slice it.

Sorry I can't really help.

Sperrys. I prefer the classic version. I've got quite a few in a variety of colors. The suede versions are a nice variant of the originals, which are also nice.

I never wear socks in the summer, except with a suit. I don't wear socks with my dress loafers either. I use odor eaters to keep feet dry and fresh. Never wear the same shoe 2 days in a row.

They make socks to hide in loafers, but I dont bother with that.

Teva style sandals. Lately I have been wearing a pair of "river shoes" which are like tevas with a closed toe to prevent stubbing the toes on rocks. Kinda useless where I am now, as there are no rocks. But when I go up into the central Texas hill country the rivers are full of rocks. I don't know why they put them there. Our rivers and bayous have mud bottoms.

I think a simple leather boat shoe can function reasonably well, for stepping outside for moderately long periods of time and going out in public. By simple I mean not having thick insoles or beefy leather that will trap more heat or provide a foot hugging fit that blocks air circulation. As a point of personal reference, a long time ago I had an inexpensive leather pair with thin leather insoles from a no-name brand but the fit and weight were such that I could wear comfortably for a long time without socks, whereas "better" similarly styled shoes from Rockport were impossible to wear comfortably without socks due to the "comfort" insole and heavier weight.

Sebago Docksides the right shoe; perfect for shorts, khakis or jeans. I wore out my LL Bean version in two years, the Sperry Cabo that replaced them lasted 3 months (shrunk when wet!!!) - but Sperry replaced for the Cabo with the Billfish. I wore the Billfish for about three weeks and then jumped on Zappos - two days later I was back into the Docksides.

My previous pair of Docksides lasted close to from 1980 to 2001 - with constant use. Toward the end...well, they owed me nothing at that point, but I was still wearing them for chores around the house. The lovely bride chucked them and replaced them with the Bean.

Bottom Line: Docksides

I wear the Billfish. I've had a pair for years now that are my go to shoes in the summer. The wife bought me a new pair a couple years ago that are still in the box. With a tee shirt and shorts I usually wear flip flops.

I like them, I find them very uncomfortable

Vibram FiveFingers. Probably not as stylish, but awesome for summer days.
I can't stand them, my pinky toes slips out and the horror. The little piggy cries all the way home

This, and the pinky slips out
