Glock Mag Differences

My new Gen3 Glock 23 which I purchased in January came with two factory mags. A month back I ordered a like new G23 mag for a fair price from eBay. It's a legit mag in every way I can figure. But I noticed something before my last shooting day.

The factory mags and the eBay mag are different. I've included pics to show the obvious difference. The factories have much more cutout in them and silver metal behind those cutouts. The oddball out mag has just one cutout and its just plastic. I also noted that the spring in both the factories rattles alot when bumped compared to the oddball. None of this is a big deal, but here's why I got to thinking I'd ask you fellas: The oddball mag seats much easier and securely and closer to the grip frame, almost flush. The factory mags don't seat against the grip, they wiggle around noticably more, and take more effort to lock into place, especially when loaded.

I find it strange that this is the case. I don't think anything is wrong with any of them, as they all load and feed rounds with zero failures. What do you guys think about this whole deal? I have a theory but I want to see what you guys think first.

I have been told that gen 4 mags will work in older gens but not the other way around. If I had to guess thats the case here.

the new gen 4 mags have notch on both sides... allows for the mag release to be used righty or lefty. I'm pretty sure the older gen 3 mag with one notch will still work in gen 4 gun ---as long as the mag release is put in for a righty shooter.

So if I'm reading you guys right, what your saying is my Gen3 G23 shipped with Gen4 mags? Are they just using Gen4 mags with everything now?

So what this means for me is, the Gen3 mag I bought fits my gun better than the newer Gen4 mags it came with.

Thoughts?
