Gillette Super Speed and Gem Micromatic on Hogan's Heroes!

So I was just watching a Hogan's Heroes episode, where it looks like Hogan is being sent home by the Germans to testify to the Allies the power of a new German secret weapon, and Hogan is packing his toiletry bag in the Stalag. The two razors he packs are a brass Gem Micromatic and a Gillette Super Speed! Now I know what is next on my razor list.

There have been an auction or two (or maybe more) on eBay of shaving gear that is purported to be used by Bob Crane on the set of Hogan's Heroes. The auctions looked a little suspect to say the least.

Wouldn't there not be a Super Speed during WWII? Just a Ranger Tech or whatever the precursor was called? Nitpicky I know...

My dad was a WWII POW, and he hated that show.

He did allow that the camp was laid out very accurately.

Well, in most Horse Operas the 1880's era cowboys are packing 1894 Winchesters and such, so a WWII Super Speed is par for the course.

I noticed looking at the manuf. dates of the Milord I just purchased some were made in 1941. I think it was a gold ranger tech without end caps. Maybe that was what Hogan was packing in his bag?
Does anyone know how to determine the manuf. date of the Milord I just got? it's 47-53 range but I'd like to know the exact year. My purpose was to get a birth date gillette but, since I was born in 1943 they weren't making any except for the military. Anyone know some provenance on the Milord? Thanks.

I see no Super Speed in Hogan's Heroes! Nothing!

It very well could be. I didn't really get a very good look at the razor, it was only a few frames' worth.

For the Milord, no end caps should equal 1941, end caps with smooth band on handle above the TTO knob should be 1946, all knurled handle and no notch center bar should be a 1947 and all knurled with a notched center bar and no date code would be the 1948-1950 variant.

We need to keep in mind however, that though the progression of the features outlined above is in the correct order, there is no guaranty that the changes occurred precisely at the end/beginning of a year's production.

Ahhhhh, but what razor does Col. Klink use?

BTW, If a razor ever shows up on e-bay purportedly used by Bob Crane, perhaps give it a double dose of Barbicide before use...:w00t:

Thanks T Rick for the info! It appears the Milord I have is a 1946 model. It has the smooth band above the TTO knob and no notches in the blade guide in the silo. That's GREAT! Since I couldn't get my exact birth year razor the first ones produced after WWII is perfect for me. I am amazed by the wealth of knowledge that is contained in this forum. Thanks again T Rick!

I suppose you'd have to give him one of the WWII gov't Techs instead of the Superspeed. The prop guy probably just said "here's an old razor, use this". I'm not sure people watch Hogan's Heroes for the historical accuracy. It's a funny show though.

What I liked better are the old 3 Stooges routines where Curly has the straight razor and just puts it on a 90 and scrapes it down fast, while the sound effect makes a loud scratching noise.
