Gillette Silver Blue does not like

my Merkur 34C. I did my normal every day beard prep, changed nothing and it wouldn't cut the hairs. The darn thing was scraping across my face not cutting anything. After 3 short strokes of hair being left behind I changed blades to a PolSilver Stainless (brown) and had no issues. Shaved like butter.

I've used the GSB in a Slim in the past and although it wasn't the best shave i was certainly able to use it for a whole shave. In my 34C today..no way.

Funny thing is i've had similar issues in the past with blades & 34C. Bics gave me the exact same problem and most recently Sharks. I think it's just one picky razor. And i'm starting to get a little irritated with it.

I've got 100 GSB's on the way. I'll have to try one in my 34c. My 34c has not gotten much attention for a long time, but that's due to all of my recent razor acquisitions lately. I've never noticed my 34c being too picky, although it is a bit aggressive by nature regardless of the blade.

Maybe thats the issue......I havent used it lately. I just wasn't expecting the blade to react the way it did. GSB's are known to be great blades around here, and in my slim it did the job.

That is surprising to me as well. I've had no issues with the SB. I can see you maybe having issues with the BICs and Sharks in the less aggressive razor but a sharper blade like the SB should be at least OK?

dud blade?
all the GSB's ive used have at least been on par with Lab's or better, better than astras at least!

I love the GSB, im happy I bought 100!

Did you try using that same blade in a different razor?
I used a GSB in a Slim awhile back. The shave wasn't anything out of the ordinary but I was able to use the blade for one complete shave at least.

It might have been. I've heard around here every now and then of blades just being bad.

The reason that I wondered if you had tried the same blade in a different razor would be to eliminate the variable to see if it is the blade or the razor. It could be simply variability in the blades rather than the razor itself. Or, try another Silver Blue in your 34C and see if it shaves the same.

Not all blades work for everyone and a given blade may be great for one person in a given razor and terrible in another. Only way to know is to try them

That's because there made for gillette razors:thumbup: no but seriously try it in a vintage gillette if it performs poor its the blade and try another if it still preforms poor may be a case of ymmv I know I have a obscenely large order of these on the way for myself

I already have 90 some on hand and I will be ordering more in the future that's for sure, a nice blend of sharpness and comfort I don't get with others

Stock up on a hard to find blade that you like? Sure. But 6000? If you get 3-4 shaves out of each blade and shave every day, that's about 100 per year. So you just bought a 60-year supply. You better be just starting to shave and committed to one blade for the rest of your life ... or you could share the goodness and offer your excess here in BST once the reality of 6000 blades finally hits you.

Well I figured I just need over 8000 blades for the rest of my life and if I get bored of them I could always sell them as I bought all the vendors stock for 16$/100 and could make quite a profit once no one has any more did i just start shaving no that was like 4 years ago and I'm going to need blades for the rest of my life if I don't die young they'll probably stop making de blades in my lifetime

next cheapest cheapest place is razors direct just over 20/100

Lol....are those the ones I sent you? I've usually had good luck with them. Weepers on second use but for one off they are excellent. Now that they are discontinued I have to find another blade. Dang.

I meant I'm starting to get irritated with the razor (Merkur 34C). 3 blades so far I can't use in it and there are numerous other blades that are not the greatest. Compared to my Slim and Super Speed where I haven't found a blade yet that was terrible with those razors.

It's not the GSB's i guess its just that razor, the GSB's were decent in my Slim.

The first couple strokes set the tone for the whole shave and when you get a bum razor/blade combo and have to swap out the blade just messes the whole shave up for me.

I hear you. Once you have to stop mid shave it disrupts the rhythm of the whole shave. But this is part of the trial & error I guess. Still finding out things myself but with such short term memory I "rediscover' new things every month!:biggrin1: It's really great! Annoys my wife though:lol:
