GEM OCMM Brass versus Chrome Plated?

I'm interested in obtaining a Gem MicroMatic razor with open comb. I see plenty on the Bay but it's funny...the brass ones go fairly cheap but the chrome(?) plated ones go much higher. Anyone have a reason why?

I can't explain why the chrome ones go for more because Gem advertised the open comb model as being gold plated, not brass, as can be seen in this ad. All of mine appear to be gold plated.

Yes. At the time I was an SE virgin and didn't notice. Was an overly aggressive shave so I got the 1912 instead.
now I are hexperienced and know better :001_smile

And the cheaper, less worn, less plating loss, stops intact replacement should get here Saturday.

Any one notice a draggy feeling? With the brass ones.To me it feels to have more friction against the skin as opposed to the chrome plated Gems.Or is it just me?

I have seen some that look gold but here's a few off "an auction site" that stated they were brass.

That's generally because most sellers on eBay don't know what they're talking about regarding shaving equipment. The gold will be tarnished and they assume it's brass, or the gold is worn down showing brass. You can't believe what the eBay sellers say about this stuff, for example, they constantly say that boar brushes are "badger hair", and call a lot of Gillettes "FatBoys" when they aren't, etc. Find out about it here and don't trust what you are told on the bay.

I have three, two chrome and one brass...I haven't noticed a difference, they both shave amazingly smooth and both can bite if they are in a bad mood.

Case in point. I found a "Gem" razor advertised on eBay when in fact it was just a fat handled Gillette Tech in a Gem case. The guy wanted way too much for it too. As with anything else on eBay - buyer beware.

All of the chrome ones I've had have two small bumps that the blade sets on, the gold/brass ones I've had lack the bumps. I think the bumps change the blade angle slightly which could make for a different feeling.

I have one of each. Bot of them bumpy. Nevertheless, the brass one delivers not so close shaves than the chrome plated. Tried different creams/soaps to test and prove. Any similar experience?

I haven't noticed the Gold ones cost less. My observation is the price range, in general, is pretty wide. Those in an original case with blades and instructions are a bit more.
