Forums for Shaving Technique?

Are there any forums or sub-forums devoted solely to shaving technique as opposed to hardware? Or is all technique discussion subsumed under the headings of particular equipment types? I'm particularly interested in discussions of fast, multi-pass, two-way wet shaves. Reason: That's something I've been able to do reasonably well with the lightest throwaway razors. I'm wondering whether they will be possible with a metal DE. Yay? Nay? What say ye?

Take care,

You'll probably find discussion of technique mostly in the General and Shave Clinic/Newbie forum. A lighter DE such as a late 40s Gillette Super Speed would probably give you the quickest shave among DE razors. Feel free to post any specific question you may have. We'll be glad to help.

Well, as you have already noticed, about 99% of the discussion is about products. This (general) is probably the closest thing to a "technique" sub-forum as you will find. As to the idea of a "fast, multi-pass, two-way" shave...not sure exactly what that means, at least the "two-way" part. You can certainly get a quick two-pass shave with a DE. In fact, many around here generally do a two-pass DE shave with great results.

After you get the basic technique down you will be able to perform a quick multi-pass shave, or linger over your shave for half an hour whichever you prefer. At first you may take a while to get a good shave without nicking yourself, but after it becomes second nature you can whiz right through it.

My normal three pass shave is 6-8 minutes, but I've done a two pass shave in under two minutes, just on a dare to see if it could be done.

+1 Depending on how coarse your beard is, you should be able to achieve a quick two-pass shave with most DEs once your technique is good enough. Many folks have their own way of shaving so there isn't one proper way to go about it except for very light pressure, good prep, and practice. Good luck.
