What's new

forgot how to shave! .here's MY sign!

So I have been shaving with a de now for about a month and a half. Previously I have been shaving with a cartridge and cream. Had been doing that since I was 16 (15 years now). Well, just yesterday I had to pull out the old hydro 5 because I was at my girlfriend's apartment and needed to shave for a job interview. It was the worst shave I had in a while. Haha. No irritation but I couldnt get the blade to make contact with my skin because of the lather. After my first failed attempt as to what some would call a first pass I rinsed to see my progress. I had patches of hair that I missed all over the place. It took me some time but I was able to get a decent shave.

I have read some say that since learning good technique it helped their cartridge shaving. Well kudos to all you, I might as well tried to hold the razor with my foot. It felt awkwardly and unnecessarily long-handled and it just didnt want to cut through the lather and I had to rinse it almost every stroke. Man, I am glad I have all you to show me the err's in my way and to show me that shaving can be enjoyable!

Actually, the technique from DE shaving does translate somewhat to better cart shaves. I find the Schick carts are just plain terrible, period. I had the same experience as you with a Quattro. It didn't shave at all, and it felt like a cheese grater raking across my face. The Gillette carts are much better IMO, if a cart is what you need to use at any given time.

I actually used to use the Gillette's but switched to bump-stop razors to try to eliminate in-grown hairs and neck irritation. Problem with those where poor close shaving. I went to the hydo's and they seemed to be a happy medium. Then I made the leap to the de world.

I am going to move in with her soon so I should be good to go. Im sure im going to get some in-growns from yesterday though. Im waiting for them to surface.

I was not clear on whether you used the same lather with the cartridge as you now use with a DE. Proper lather does make a huge difference.

It was actually canned cream, which I no longer use. I think I am just used to the "no pressure" rule and applied the cream too thickly as I could barely get to my skin with the razor without removing some of the cream off my face.
