Flared tip Aristocrat

I just picked up a flared tip silver Aristocrat in an antique store and while cleaning it I noticed it had a serial number being with an H (H250***) which if I'm reading the date/ serial codes right indicates it was made in 1918. I thought the flared tips were only made from 1914 -1917 so I'm wondering why this one's serial number starts with an H? It was in an old leatherette box with the purple lining and the Gillette in script instead of the diamond trademark and had the two black cardboard blade banks (sharp & dull) which I think would date the box before 1908. I assume this is a non original box since it's not the fancy white celluloid case I think all the flared tips came in. So some of you guys with more experience and expertise can you advise when this razor was made for sure and as far as the box goes (which is relatively good shape) can somebody tell what should go in there as I'd like to find the proper razor to fit it. THANKS!!!!

Welcome to B&B.

Well an Aristocrat of that vintage is a spectacular find. Someone will be along shortly that knows more than I do, but I'm sure they will ask you to post some pics of this mystery case. Oh and Congrats on the razor.

From your description it does sound like a mismatch, but pics would help. Plus, we always like pictures. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the date -- changes didn't generally happen exactly with the calendar year, and that particular one is a very fuzzy boundary anyway.

Yup, just like you described. I'd say you've definitely got a mismatch there on your hands. The case and blade sleeves would be from something like 1906-1908. Also, it's conceivable that someone could have put mixed pieces from different razors to make that one, since the barrel is the only identifying element of that Aristocrat. But I wouldn't say that solely on the basis of the serial number.

A mismatch would be my guess, too, since it had an "H" code. On the other hand, if it had been produced early in the production year (which I'm assuming started with E449208, then went to "F", then "G", etc.), it might be a different story.

Thanks; I was lucky to find it and paid the "outrageous" sum of $10.00 for it. No cracks anywhere or broken teeth, the only real problem with it is a slight spot of brass showing on the head and on the flare tip of the handle.
