First Two Shaves with a Parker 71R

I must have been bored at work last Friday afternoon. So for fun and adventure I ordered a Parker 71R from Superior Shave ($19 including shipping). They are in Florida and I'm on the west coast so I was surprised to see my razor in the mailbox on Tuesday - that's some pretty fast shipping.

The Parker is my 7th DE razor (at last count) so I have a few others of which to baseline it against. It's a 3-piece traditional model. The first impression (which I really liked) is the weighty-heft of the razor and the long handle. It's also a very good looking razor and compares well (looks-wise) to everything else I own except maybe my Edwin Jagger.

After a few strokes of the razor I realized that this is a pretty aggressive razor. The first shave I got a bit of razor burn doing my normal three-pass shave plus touch-ups. For today's shave I was able to get a very fine BBS shave with only 2 passes and a touch-up or two. I believe that today's shave was as good as any of them, so I am delighted in my new toy.

In summary, I find the Parker to be a darn fine razor and I am glad that I have added it to my collection. The workmanship on this razor was very good - no problems at all, no alignment issues, as some of the posts on this forum indicate. As I understand it Parker has upped the quality of their razors.

If you are looking for a new toy then consider one of these.

Their three piece razors will certainly grow on you. I own two of them and use them pretty often. My two (65r's) don't strike me as super-aggressive, but I am using mild blades in them. You got a good price on a good razor, imo.
