First time DE shave!

Shaved with a safety razor for the first time. Surprisingly it went well, only two small cuts. Biggest mistake was using the cheap chinese blade that came with the razor ($2 sodial from amazon). I wanted to stay on the safe side so i decided to use the blade that came with the razor thinking it wouldnt be so sharp.. yea it literally PULLED by hair out. I have some questions regarding my aftershave though. I bought Clubman Pinaud at Rite-Aid and love the smell. However it dries my skin so i am wondering if i can use it on top of Nivea balm (http://www.amazon.com/Nivea-Men-Sensitive-Comfort-3-3-Ounce/dp/B001FB5IGE), or do i have to choose one or the other.

Also, i have 2 of each of these blades, so which ones should i start from, to be on the safe side (i threw away the Chinese one).

I don't think there would be anything wrong with mixing the 2. Personally, if I had to choose, I would go with the balm first...let it dry down and then maybe add the clubman after for the scent value.

This is exactly what i was thinking, but being new to this i wanted some assurance it could be done. Thanks!

I'd start with Astras. A good starter blade with a nice mix of smoothness and sharpness.
