First Time Antiquing

Hey everyone. First time going around to a few antique stores today and picked up a nice Gillette Tuckaway in very nice condition along with a Kraut Dohnal straight razor (I think). I must say that I'm definitely addicted. Quick question tho, the Gillette doesn't have a serial number, just a patent date of January 1920. Does that mean that it was made in the 20's or that was when the patent was filed for?

A big hearty congrats on your find! I'm sure someone will be along to help you with a definitive answer just wanted to stop in and peak. Very cool find.

+1. Very nice! Good finds in the wild are becoming scarce due to people like Rxonmymind and myself scouring the corners of swap meets and senior citizen's garages (not that I've done that).

NIce razor ..Razors like that are getting much more difficult to find. I was at a local antique mall yesterday and saw a Stahly for 60.00. At that price I imagine it will be sitting for quite some time. I thought I had found a great deal in Dubl Duck, but when I had it taken out of the case I found the blade was destroyed. I would hold onto to that Tuckaway, they are excellent shavers and very cool looking imho.

I'm definitely happy with my purchases. I went around to about 5 places and I was told that each time someone had come in last week and cleaned house...maybe it was someone on B&B. The last place I went to had a very good selection. 4-5 different straits and about 10 DE razors. Thank you amish for the help. I did a cursory check of the wiki, but I guess i didn't dig deep enough.

None of us here at B&B would do that! Why, that would imply that we have an addiction. If we were truly addicted, we would be making plans to attend something like this: http://fleamarket.about.com/od/highwayyardsales/p/U-S-11-Antique-Alley-And-Yard-Sale.htm Right?:001_rolle 500 miles of flea market booths!
