First shave with a straight

I received my "starter kit" from LarryAndro today, and couldn't wait to get shaving. I picked a crummy day for it though...rushed for time, wife was in a bad mood and wanted to kvetch, kids were running around like crazy people. Despite it all, shaved with it anyway.

All in all, a decent shave. Three passes, one WTG and two XTG. Close, though not what I'm used to from a DE, but better than what I used to get with carts. I'd say it was on par with my first DE shave. Only one significant cut, right below my nostril, where I slipped when someone came charging through the bathroom. One minor weeper on my chin. I was...nervous, more so than I anticipated being. But all things considered, I'm quiet happy with my first experience, and can't wait to improve to the point that I can get a great shave, rather than "just" a good one.

It was my own fault, I was too excited to try it, I didn't want to wait till tomorrow when I'll have many quiet hours all to myself. But yeah, I was pretty happy with the outcome regardless.

Awesome job, and welcome to the world of straight razor shaving! You are now more hardcore than 99% of the fellas in the world! Distractions can be difficult, especially early in the game. Keep at it, and if you have the time and inclination, keep us updated on your progress. I would have given up at the 3rd shave if it werent for the encouragement and advise from the great people here in the SR forum!

Whee! Got my kit from Larry and started the same day as you!...

This has to make us something..

And from the sound of our shave-initiations, it might be blood brothers!

Are you the one that got that fat Hoylen razor, I think it was 11/16? Larry told me someone else claimed it right before I asked for it. :tongue_sm

in the same boat on my first try...
i had to lock the door, barricade it, turn on the bathroom fan, and turn on some music and still had little kids rapping on the door to find what I was doing... even after i told them i need 30 minutes of me time...

Ya know, Blood Brothers is a pretty good moniker for all of us. I like it.
Granaura thunk up a good label for us.

Much better than my maiden voyage with the straights. Got it from Larry as well. The razor was fine but the guy with the five fingers was not so fine. First thing that came to mind was renting my face out to Halloween parties if I didn't improve.

I remember reading a post from another member saying that after his first straight shave he looked like he'd been shot in the face.

From your account of the first shave you did very well. Congrats.

Congrats Angus...good job on your first attempt.

I understand the desire to try it even when circumstances arent the best...sometimes our zeal gets the best of us. However, in future attempts, your efficiency will likely improve more quickly if you listen to the little shaver in your gut telling you to hold off til the ankle biters are in bed and the wife is happy

I ... can't ... resist.

I'd have never have shaved again.

I work second shift, so I'm usually getting ready for work when no one else is home. Had the kids today, and some errands, so I was behind schedule. Tomorrow will be better! :w00t:

I have a friend who's a graphic artist...maybe I'll see about hitting him up for some shirts. :thumbup1:

Well, second shave was a resounding success! No cuts, nearly BBS. A little bit of irritation below my chin where I got a little aggressive. I'm very happy with this shave!

Oh no... I will have to buy it just to take a picture beside my new Badger print in the bathroom...
ARGH!:001_rolle

Muahahaha. I totally asked the wife to buy me one. She said fine, but i'd have to move my stuff to the kids bathroom...

Great work on the second shave, Angus. Looks like we've got a natural on our hands... Don't let the hubris get to you. Be sure to keep your focus as you- as well as most of us are still 'honing' our skills. It takes a moments distraction to get a cut or nick. Nicely done!
