First Run with Tabac

Well, I got my WCS order in yesterday as expected. A big thanks to the gang out there for the exceptional customer service they provide. I do hope that one day I'm able to road trip out to California so I can stop into their store. Top notch!

I decided to use the Tabac after a skilled and highly involved selection process.....ok I set the containers down on the counter, closed my eyes and picked whichever one I came into contact with. Tabac won! My first run with it left a WONDERFUL impression. Such a smooth performing soap. The first lather was a touch dry as I did not lather in a bowl as I normally do, opting to instead get some soap on the brush from the puck, then go straight to my face. Next go around I plan on bowl lathering to see if there's any difference. But the second pass, I added a good amount of water to it and it produced great results, as well as the 3rd pass and the touchups. I've yet to find out what it is about the soap that doesn't appeal to the senses. It reminded me of Old Spice a bit, with the powdery smell to it, something like my grandpa wears. But with a hint of an aromatic tobacco to it as well. It fits nicely into my collection and rotation. Sorry if anyone was expecting a scenario where I didn't like it in hopes that I would PIF it or put it up on the BST. Sorry gents! Great performer and for me, a pleasant scent. Victory for Tabac!

Tabac ROCKS.... I have gotten into using a Tabac shave stick lately. this has made me put away my glass jar with the Tabac puck and I may never go back to a puck after using the stick. Give it a shot and see BUT... You'd better use up your Tabac puck first unless you want to feel badly about not using it any more

HAHA thanks, turtle! I'll use up this puck first then. I don't want any jealousy issues going on in the shave den haha!

Tabac is great and does not remind me of "old-timer scent" at all I do not generally like "grandpa scents" ie Clubman but I love Tabac - very manly plus great lather.

I am not surprised you like Tabac. I use a puck (cut up and mashed into my bowl) at home and a stick on the road. I also still have some AoS Sandalwood cream at home, but it does not get used too much anymore since I got the Tabac puck and balm. Both my wife and 20 yo daughter like the smell of Tabac. I like its performance.

I was pif'd a puck of Tabac by a very generous member here. It's lather is unsurpassed by any soap I've tried. The scent is a personal preference of course and it was off-putting at first. I found the strong scent moderated after opening and being set out for a few days. I either experienced olfactory exhaustion or have grown to appreciate the spicy "old school" fragrance. Tabac will always be present in my shave den.

I too use the stick for travel and the jar at home, both are nice to use. I have never tried their cream though, heard it smells slightly different, can anyone attest to this?

Since i shifted to DE shaving a month ago, i have tried a Wilkinson shaving cream, proraso white tub, proraso green tub and now a tabac. I find tabac to be the most gentlest and smoothest of them all. Excellent lather using my bardger brushes (pure badger and shavemac silvertip). I use the proraso only when travelling, as the tabac ceramic bowl is too heavy!

tabac cost me CHF 24 in switzerland, but i am told it will last me for 7-8 months with 4 usages per week, each with a 3 pass shave (since i dont shave daily). The purchase is worth it.

I used my Tabac today, and always, and as always, produced a great lather. I also have the AS but didn't use it. I have to disagree with you assessment of the scent. My 87 y/o mother has worn White Shoulders for as long as I can remember -- that is what Tabac smells like to me! I will continue using the soap because of the performance, but the AS may be on B/S/T or a PIF sometime in the near future (I do like the way the AS makes my skin feel, I guess I'm just not a Tabac guy as far as the scent). As alway, YMMV. :straight:

HAHA sees like Tabac is one of the defining YMMV products. After one shave, I have already figured out how well of a lather-producer this soap is. I was just blown away and I still have room to work with the lather.

I don't believe that anyone doubts the performance of Tabac soap but I understand that not everyone enjoys the scent. It is certainly a winner for me!

I am one of the few who don't like Tabac because of it's performance. Well actually, that's sort of not true. It smells good (once it's mellowed out a bit), lathers great and shaves well, but I find it leaves my skin feeling dry and soaped down. Unlike MWF and Cella that leave my face feeling very soft and moisturised. So unfortunately, Tabac doesn't get a place in my rotation. As I narrow down my soap rotation, I will probably PIF Tabac so someone else can enjoy it's excellent lather.

Tabac soap was my very first soap which I still had in rotation this year, To my nose the Cream was a bit more intense in scent than the soap, but virtually identical. On my last Tabac Cream purchase from Perfumania, the aroma was still intense, but to me the Citrus/Orange note was more pronounced. I enjoyed the boost of Orange and thought it complimented the spiciness nicely, the Orange note was very noticeable in all three of the tubes I had purchased.

Most will tell you the Cream isn't as good as the soap, for my shaves I thought it was very good, the lather was a bit creamier, dense and will hold some water. I'd advise anyone trying the Cream to let it work your whiskers ~90 seconds before shaving, as with other lathers this helps soften & hydrate your whiskers allowing comfortable, enjoyable whisker reduction.

Add; Samf, Tabac will absorb plenty of water, I'd suggest using a wetter lather and you might have a change of heart.

I love the cream, too. It just takes a little larger dollop than most creams I've tried, but the lather is awfully dense.

That's interesting, the soap doesn't seem to need that much and I never have to reload the brush. It's like the energizer bunny, keeps going and going and going!
