What's new

First brush project

I have been in need of adding a badger hair brush to my lineup and what better way to go about it than to make your own. This handle is made up of Oak with Cherry, and Purpleheart stripes. The knot is a finest 22mm from TGN with a loft height about 50mm. Pictures for your enjoyment (sorry about the quality, all I had was my phone camera)

The brush also makes a beautiful, creamy lather

Note: I have not used the Mühle R41 yet because I have been participating in "No Shave Novem-Beard" at the girlfriends request. This month I have only been shaping and trimming to keep it neat. I am counting down the days to slice this thing off and give both the R41 and the new brush a nice break in challenge!

To finish I used about 10 coats of shellac and 3 coats of a high gloss lacquer. It is actually much more glossy in person, the pictures did not show it well.

I have used this brush a couple times and I can only seem to get a good lather from creams. Is there a break in period that would maybe help with soap lathering?
