What's new

Finally My AH-HA Coticule Moment!

I just wanted to let everyone know about my AH-HA moment today with my new La Petite Blanche coticule!! I have a Taylor 1000 Eyewitness razor that I've had a terrible time getting a decent edge on. I've tried with the La Dressante and the La Grise and got an Ok edge but nothing to write home about. I could get a good edge on it with a Jnat but it was a bit harsh (but I'm still learning about Jnat's). Tonight I took it to the LPB.... Dulled it on glass and then used circles and dilutions. I got down to water and got a HHT2-3 off the stone!! Stropped on linen and leather and got a solid 3-4 along most of the edge. I then used Gary's method and went back and did some half strokes on water and then finished with circles and x-strokes with water. Stropped again.....better. Repeated again and wow!!! Got a solid HHT 4 on the whole edge with my fine hair!!

Off to the test shave and I FINALLY know what everyone talks about when they refer to the coticule edge!! Very keen and very smooth. I thought I was there before with other coticule edges but WOW was I wrong! Two passes and I was done with a very nice shave!!! I guess one thing I learned is that my other stones are much slower on water than the LPB and I wasn't patient enough to develop a good edge with a slower stone!!! I'm really liking this LPB!! Thanks again JP for parting with it!!

when you hit the sweet pot with a coticule its a pleasant surprise and one yu will just want to match , by the sounds ogf it you got the stone that suits you, you also learn't somyhing new using a different approach to finishing stages . a nice picture og lpb would be nice gary

yes I did .. mate you must try unicot on that hone for some reason it gave me wicked unicot edges compared to other s I tried, I was going to keep it for that reason. if I had that stone now I would work with cicrcles in sections with dilutions, its a nice hard stone and will give sharp edges , try finishing with circles only and misty slurry ater stropping you may see a nice hht not before .... unusual looking stone ,, enjoy it mate

Hey Shawn,

That's awesome! I'm happy to hear that you're having success with the stone!! I too noticed that it was easier to get good results with this stone than other coticules I've tried, not sure if it's because it's a little faster but that does seem to help. I'm glad you're finding out the same thing! Good stuff!!

I'm certainly not a coticule expert or even claim to know much about them at all but I've never seen an LPB with that bluish green color. I've seen a LaVerte with blue/greens in it tho.
