Feather razor blades

I used my first Feather razor blade in my Muhle R 89. I think I may have a new favourite razor blade.

Am I on track with my high regard for this blade.....or is it just a case that the novelty of using a new...to me...razor blade hasn't worn off.

You're quite right to hold the Feather blades in high regard.

I consistently get the best shaves in mild razors like the SuperSpeed and Tech.

A Feather in my HD is my new favorite as well. I am about 3 blades into Feathers and they have actually spilled less blood than many others from my sampler did in one pass. Majority of my shaves with the Feather have been completely blood free, contrary to what everyone had me believing.

And I didn't change my technique up from my old standard Derby's. Maybe a little lighter touch at first, but now I attack the stubble with a vengeance (still within DE guidelines though :)).

I'm no fan of the Feather now, I find it too rough. However, when I started DE shaving a year or so ago I quite liked this blade. This seems a bit odd to me, since my technique has vastly improved.

The most likely explanation is that all my shaves were bad at the time, so I couldn't say which blades were treating me well and which ones weren't.

I've tried the Feather on a quite a few occasions but always get cuts. I wish I could use it, as it appears to be one blade that might stick around.

Feather is a good blade.

It is just priced too high to suit me though.

It is a disposable razor blade after all. So I buy Derby and Sharks.

I would buy a ton of Feathers if they were priced like a Derby

Feathers do have a good reputation but I think some dont like them due to one of two reasons. Too sharp for how aggressive the razor is or their face is too sensitive for a blade like that. As always YMMV.

After one week of DE shaving at the start of the year, I switched to a feather and have never looked back. I find they give consistently fine shaves from the first to the fourth, after which I routinely start afresh with a new blade.

Feathers are my standard. They need patience and respect and I get 6-7 BBS shaves consistantly with them. Everything I use gets compared to them and it's the blade I keep going back to. They really work for me. Now for someone else, it could be a totally different story. The best thing is give many blades a try and find out what works best for you.

I find I cut myself and get a less close shave with feathers. I switched to shoguns immediately following, and would like them better than feathers if they didn't rust...

anyone know if there is a difference between feather and black feather?

Pretty sure they're the same, Feather just changed the color on the packaging. The yellow label ones are just old stock is my understanding. I've read that on here before and have done a side-by-side shave (half my face with each) and couldn't tell a difference.

Feathers are one of my staples - probably use them 1/3 of the time now. I was a bit tentative about them initially due to their reputation in some quarters, but have now used them in every sort of vintage Gillette razor and also Merkur, and don't think they pose any problems as long as you're attentive to blade angle and especially pressure.

(Duh! Like that isn't key to every razor, every blade!)

My principal issue with them is cost. I can get typically 4-5 good shaves, rarely 6 out of one, but an Astra costs me about 1/3 as much and yeah, requires more passes to get the same result, but still a dependable 5 shaves per blade. I do like the Feather regardless for it's minimal-pass experience and truly superior shave for the first 3 times.
