Feather Pros vs Super Pros

The Super Pros don't seem as sharp to me; or at least, they don't seem to tear my skin up as much if I'm sloppy, and they don't cut me as much if I defect with the blade.

By the same token, though, the Super Pros seem to get me a closer shave. Somehow. I get the impression they're not doing their job as well; but the truth is I have a better shave off two passes with no touch-up than I do with the Pros, and it lasts longer. The blades simply have no bite to them, but they destroy the hair.

I also noticed similar with the Dovo... a real, properly honed straight razor does nothing to my skin, the aftershave doesn't even burn; but it takes the hair off, for sure.

Strange... maybe I should add a Parker to my line-up, with the DE blades... SRW, SRB, SR2 :001_huh:

You're not the first one to notice this.

The super pros are slightly wider and thicker. The extra width means they stick out of the holder a bit more than the pro's (1.45mm vs 1.2mm). Counter-intuitively, this means they are less likely to scrape or nick you, because you use a lower shaving angle. It also means the super pro blades last longer because of the reduced lateral stress on the edge. The extra thickness (0.31 vs 0.254) may also help improve the shave comfort, by providing a wider bevel to support the skin as the razor glides along.

Most people wind up preferring the super pros.
