Favorite obscure soap

I don't know if this is obscure enough to suit you, but you may consider Ogallala Bay Rum shave stick. Super stuff and it receives very little attention. In contrast, the aftershave gets much more attention, but not the soap.

A Seinfeld quote comes to mind:

"Sometimes the road less traveled is less traveled for a reason."

I've read countless tales of obscure soapmakers producing soaps that create wimpy lather. I've read very few stories of obcure soapmakers producing soaps that create high-quality lather. It's certainly possible, but the relative dearth of such soaps may explain why few people have responded.

Many of my favorite soaps are lesser-known, though not exactly obscure. Valobra soft soap, Klar Kabinett, and Institut Karite come to mind.

As for Fiori & Frutta - I believe it's the same as the Dovo cream. I used to like the Dovo mint cream, but I've since found products that I prefer (see above). Check out this thread: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/253908-Fiori-amp-frutta

To my mind, the "obscure" soaps are the vintage ones that are no longer made. I have plenty of those, and pretty much all of them rock.

I wonder how much of that has to do with having had extra years to cure, so they get harder and harder and milder and milder as time passes.

Figaro shaving cream from Hungary has the aroma of a fin de siècle cherry-herb aperitif which takes me back to the grand cafes of Budapest, Europa, National, and Gellert Baths. Excellent performance and a sophisticated cherry-herb liqueur fragrance you'd expect served in an ornate glass at a stylish cafe, spicing a cup of coffee, drizzled over or infused into dense, full-fat whipped cream on top of something (and/or someone) seductively, lavishly delicious. Doesn't hurt that it's obscenely affordable, too.

Has to be Erasmic Black bowl soap. We all know about it. But how many of us actually have some? love the scent and for me it lathers like the best of them.

Wilkinson Sword shave stick for me. Used to be able to pick them up from a local chemist for mere pennies a few years back but they've since disappeared. Shame as they were terrific little lather beasts, and with lanolin in the mix didn't dry my skin as much as the more readily available Palmolive sticks.
