What's new

Favorite dress socks?

I need some new dress socks for work. Never again will I buy Gold Toe. They need a gold heel because that's what wears out. Anyway, looking for some moderately affordable ones. I like patterned ones too.

I have been quite happy with J.A. Bank wool otc socks. Think they have patterned as well as solids. Would check when they have one of their three-for-one (whatever) sales. Have also been happy with some Viccel wool socks from Turkey.

I've been wearing Gold Toe for 25 years. Typical pair has lasted me 6-7 yrs or more. They never sag and thus always stay up. I get them for a really good price at either Costco or Sams

I agree with everything he said. :yesnod:

I just bought 6 pair of Metropolitan OTC from Gold Toe for about 20 bucks.

I buy the "store" brand of Belk socks. There are different ones but my favorites are either merino wool or bamboo. Both are extremely soft, wick moisture away, and have held up quite well so far. I'm another guy who goes through socks like Sherman through Hotlanta, so it's not easy to find a decent pair that will last.

Now half as wise
I've never had a problem with Gold Toe. They stay up better than other brands I've tried, and don't wear out any faster than any others for me.

In the winter I wear Creek Water Alpaca socks. I always ask for them for Christmas. The dress socks are 2 pair for $20 but so worth it. They are some of the most comfortable socks I have ever worn.

Glad to hear, almost picked up a pack at costco last time I was there, I will have to next time.

Marcoliani mostly, but some of the less crazy Penrose's too. I like the vivid Penrose color, some of the designs are a little questionable. I have some Bresciani's, but I find them way too thin.

Smartwool and Allen Edmonds. Smartwool ones are thicker for the winter, but don't looks like "winter" socks. I have some Gold Toe still floating around too. Only one kind of GT consistently stayed up for me, the others fell down all the time. The Smartwool and Allen Edmonds stay up nice.

Gold Toe is great. I pick up 10+ pairs at a time so I don't have to match socks. I hate matching socks, and no one ever sees them. I'd rather spend money on cuff links or ties.

Performance wise Gold Toe are great and inexpensive from Sams. I also have six or seven pair of Merona socks from Target in various patterns that I like.

I only buy Marcoliani OTC. I've had too many experiences with cheap socks that don't stay up or last. IMO, you get what you pay for.

Bought some Pantherella OTC Merino wool socks a couple years ago. They have held up really great. Still stay over the calf all day.

I like interesting, brightly colored socks - so I go with happy socks. Full disclosure though - it never gets very cold here in Cali, so I have no need for warmer wool socks.

1) Always wool dress socks. 100% wool - not a blend of any type, no nylon. Wool wicks moisture away from foot and into shoe (thus, use cedar shoppe trees to help wick it back out.
2) I primarily have Allen Edmonds wool dress socks, and still have Gold Toe wools as well.
