Razor: Fatip Retro Lo Storto
Blade: Shark Platinum (3)
Brush: Omega S11745
Soap: Stirling Frozen Tundra
Aftershave: Stirling Frozen Tundra

Third day in using the Retro handle on a LoStorto head. The shave was good, but I'm missing my LoStorto handle. Things will be back to normal on Monday. Yes, the LoStorto handle with the twist is the bomb. It's like everything else about the LoStorto. It being the whole package. I don't want to use anything else.

Big Nurse left you a message somewhere, Rave, but I've forgotten what it said.

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody! Connaught shipped it, today. Can't wait! :biggrin1:

Thanks for the advice, Jim. I'm a steep angle shaver, so the FOCS should be right up my alley! :thumbup1:
Just for reference I just received my Omega Jade boar brush from Connaught in 16 days to Detroit metro. I am also waiting for a FOCS from Connaught that was shipped on 6/19.

OK, I've browsed this thread enough and feel like ordering a slant. For people who have used the closed comb slant (Gentile), I haven't seen nearly as much as the open comb slant - what do people think of the closed comb slant (efficiency, friendliness) compared to the Gentile closed comb, and how is the handle compared the straight Grande handle?

CC is great, but OC is much better.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Shimming my Spiral Curve worked out well so I decided to try a shim in the Fatip, BIC second use. Yup I'm gonna keep the shim .

What did the shim add to your shave?

Happy shaves,

Jim

I felt a bit more blade, which for me was a good thing, it seemed even more efficient but at the same time easier to manage--no nicks on the back of my head this time. Now it could be placebo, could be the change in blade performance with additional use. But it was a more enjoyable shave so I'm going to keep doing it, different blade next time. We know a shim will improve rigidity a modestly impact exposure, and I'm certain in this case any change was positive, ie there was no screwing up alignment.

I’m so pleased that I discovered this thread. :)

I plumped for a Gentile and Connaught delivered it to me within 24 hours.

I was quite impressed with the razor when it arrived. Whilst it’s a little rough in places, the main concern I had was that the tolerances were so tight that I struggled to separate the top cap from the baseplate. This led to some concerns as to how this would work in terms of getting the blade out of the razor at the end of my first shave (this didn’t prove to be that much of a problem in the end).

I decided to do a comparison of this razor against one of my current top 2 slants, the Wunderbar (my other top rated slant is an ATT S1).

I followed my usual routine of using a glycerine soap (MRGLO) followed by some e-shave pre-shave oil. This was followed by a uber lather using Black Ship Thomas Tew, Proraso green and some Glycerin.

I must admit that I was VERY pleasantly surprised at how well this razor shaves. There are no blade alignment issues and, whilst the blade has the waviness noticed in earlier posts, this was consistent on both sides and made no difference to the shave at all.

I’m terms of smoothness, the Wunderbar was smoother by a whisker. It really was that close. In terms of efficiency, the Fatip was slightly more efficient. I’m happy with this trade off as the shave was that good.

All in all, I can say that I have definitely found a razor that is up there with the best razors in my collection. It shaves as close as a Blackbird or Timeless 0.95 SB and costs a fraction of the price.

I’m not sure whether I would be able to tolerate the OC version as the Gentile shaved as close as I can comfortably tolerate on my face.

This razor is cheaper than a Merkur 37c and shaves as well as some of the best stainless steel razors on the market. If you’re on the fence about getting one, it really is a no-brainer.

I decided to test the Fatip against another slant again tonight. This time I chose my Ikon B1 Slant and included a head shave into the mix.

The Ikon surprised me as I can’t remember it being as smooth as this before. I haven’t used it for a few months and a change in routine may well account for this.

In terms of the two, I could tell no difference between the Fatip and Ikon in terms of efficiency after two head passes, and the Ikon felt ever so slightly smoother. I noticed the same result on the first of my passes on my face.

I also added an Ikon B1 and Timeless 0.95 SB into the mix on the second and third passes on my face, respectively.

So far, my preliminary thoughts on the Fatip are:

1) Cheap, good tolerances but a bit rough around the edges.
2) As efficient as an Ikon B1 Slant, Blackbird and Timeless 0.95 SB.
3) More efficient than a Razorock Wunderbar.
4) Smoother than a Blackbird.
5) Less smooth than Wunderbar, Timeless 0.95SB and an Ikon B1 Slant.
