YES! Its that time of year again... fantasy football geeks, unite!
Unnecessary History
This will be my 6th year playing in my office fantasy football league. I have a decent track record: Champion 3 out of 5 years, including last year (one coworker and I switch off as champion every-other-year
). The league we run is a basic keeper league. We can select one player from our previous year roster to retain for this year. The only kicker is, we cannot select the player we kept the previous year. So, coming up at the end of the month, we will be doing our live draft... and, the commish wants our keeper selections.
Scoring
I am definitely going to keep a runningback (esp. since I have last pick). In our league, RBs get 1 point/10 yards, 1 point/reception, 6 points/touchdown, -2 points/fumble.
The Qeustion
From last years roster, I have narrowed down my keeper to 2 candidates. Maurice Jones-Drew or DeAngelo Williams
Pros/Cons Analysis
Lets begin with Jones-Drew. He is a small, capable back with Barry Sanders like potential. Furthermore, Fred Taylor is gone now and Jones-Drew will be the featured back and won't be splitting carries (not as much, at least). In his 3 years, he has had at least 1,100 total yards and nine total touchdowns each year. The problem is, I'm not fond of the line. If they can create holes for him, he'll be a star.
Then, there is DeAngelo Williams. This dude was a STUD for me last year! He had the best rushing numbers in franchise's history! Rushed for 1,515 yards and had 22 receptions for 121 yards with 20 total touchdowns (18 rushing) and no fumbles! Not too shabby. What's more, he was splitting carries with Stewart... So, he accomplished quite a bit, with about half the playing time. Not to mention, he is running behind one of the best lines in the NFL. Oh, AND he has averaged 5.5 yards/carry the last 2 seasons. So, its safe to say he is a productive back. But, he WILL still split carries with Stewart. I assume Williams will be the yardage back and Stewart will be a 3rd down back and get the goal line carries. He can't have another stellar season like that... can he?
So, lets open this up for discussion. Who do YOU think is the better back, and why?
Thanks in advance for your help and opinions.
