What's new

Excellent cheap shave

I stopped in at a local Indian grocery yesterday, and picked up a tube of Godrej for $1.99 (Also got a couple of bars of Mysore Sandal Soap). There was a Dollar General on the way home, so I stopped in there and picked up a bottle of Barbasol Pacific Rush for $1.75.

What can I say? I won't review them here, but the performance was
outstanding. Neither would be in my top 5, but they aren't that far off. These things are of course, highly subjective, but I've shaved with many products that cost much, much more that didn't really produce a better shave.

It just goes to show that you don't HAVE to spend much money to have a great shaving experience.

That's great! It's fun trying new products.

It's funny I have recently come to the conclusion...price is irrelevant when it comes to a BBS.

Cheap stuff is fun! Today's shave was a Williams/Proraso super lather, a $12 Gillette Tech with a Red Personna, and a splash of Aqua Velva. Probably my easiest DFS all week!

I hear you...there's a lot of great cheap stuff out there, I'm a big fan of Palmolive cream. The most expensive soap I've ever used has been KMF. Sometimes I wonder just how much better a $30 soap is, or how much difference a brush over $15 makes...any input from the high rollers out there? :001_cool:

I may try upgrading one step at a time. I'm happy with the drugstore products that I've got, but Mama Bear and The Bomb are next on my list. :001_rolle

One thing for sure is that newbies (like myself) will have the ability to judge quality only after a couple of years of wet shaving.

So the expensive stuff is probably mostly enjoyed by senior wet shavers.

I have only been at it for about 3 months now, but after spending lots of time on many different products I think I can judge quality just fine. Everything about wetshaving is SO subjective that the best judge is YOU right NOW, not years from now.

I have both very cheap and middle of the road creams and soaps, nothing TOO pricey yet, and even though I can get great shaves from cheap stuff, for me it is more about the scent of some of the more expensive products. Even if I can get BBS with a $1 puck of Williams I am not going to deal with that scent!

I am also all about trying things out and instead of having a single "go to" setup I want diversity in my life!! This is one of the things that intrigued me so much about wetshaving.

Yes it is possible that some people develop a selection of preffered items in a fairly short itme.

Maybe in three months from now i will be able to have this skill!!:001_rolle
