Ever-Ready Finishes

Picked up an Ever-Ready 1912 razor yesterday.

It has a silver finish. Can I assume that it is a nickel plated version?

Also at the antique store there was another 1912 model that was just dirty. I didn't know if it was brass (solid or plated) or just a really dirty gold plated model. If it is brass I may be tempted to buy it. Some Brasso could really shine that sucker up!

Does anyone have information on the different finishes on Ever-Ready razors?

Thanks.

I just bought a 1912 Made in England Ever Ready that came in a green bakelite box and it also has a shiny finish. On the other hand I have a 1924 Ever Ready and it is not nearly as shiny.

In the 20's, they offered razors that were 'triple' plated. I've got two of them, cased, and they look like new, in spite of the cases showing heavy usage.

I've seen print ads or the era that related that the razors were finely finished and highly polished prior to plating. The two that I have, both 1912 pattern razors, show that to be true. They are positively dazzling, and though the cases evidence a lot of wear, the razors appear pristine. ASR did a good job with these.
