Elixir and Endymion

I got samples of Penhaligon's Elixir and Endymion and thought I'd share my impressions so far.

Elixir may be the weirdest scent I've worn. Not in a bad way, necessarily; in fact, I think I kind of like it. It just seems that the notes are a little discordant - heavy in both spice and wood. Mrs. Obsessed's initial reaction was not positive. I'll have to see if she reacts differently when I'm not shoving my wrist in her face and saying "smell this."

She did have a positive reaction to Endymion. I like it as well, but it may be a tad sweet for me. It may just take getting used to; it's different from what I've generally worn. I never thought I'd use this word to describe a scent, but "sumptuous" came to mind.

Pen's did send me two sample vials of each, so I can do several test wearings, which is nice. Unfortunately, they didn't send the Racquets Formula I asked for. Oh, well.

Too bad about the Racquets.

Someone in here suggested it to me and it's become my favorite work scent.

Very clean and "barbershop." It wins the longevity contest by a mile on me.
Wore it last week and it was still present in a pleasant way 12+ hours.

I kept catching a whiff of something that smelled great at a work function into the evening, and then realized it was me.

I keep debating on which Pens to try next and hope I find another with legs like this one but a little more sex appeal.

Endymion smells wonderful; very oriental, resinous, sumptuous scent. But every time I put it on, I don't fall in love with it. I think because it reminds me of mass-market offerings.

I am on the verge of buying Elixir, which would be my 7th bottle of Penhaligons. (Blenheim, Douro, Castile, Endymion, Racquets, Opus) I think it is TOTALLY unique as far as fragrances go, with only a nod to Montale's Aoud Steam with the light eucalyptus note. With the rose and spices and tea, it surprisingly balances into something remarkable and stunning. I think I might have just sold myself!

Endymion is also a big favorite of mine. I've gotten many compliments from girls on this one. I think it is the perfect fragrance for night time, in just about any situation. It might seem familiar at first, but once the magic starts to unfold, Endymion's uniqueness and character expose themselves.

Racquets... Stylin'LA - I'm happy you have grown to like this one so much! It's sort of funny, you seem to consider it your perfect work fragrance, while I consider it the quintessential athletic fragrance. It is obviously perfect for both, and is extremely masculine and versatile. The powdery citrus musk thing has obviously been done before, but that touch of incense just sets off the whole concoction.

Yeah, it sits in a nice zone for me at the office.
Polite, but potent.
Floral, but masculine.
Keeps surprising me all day, which is rare on me.

Looks like I'm going to have to scope out Endymion.

I truly have to get some more Elixir. I had the sample from Pen's a long time ago and really liked it, but that was a long time ago and the sample small. I am not a big Endymion fan. I know many love it. Pretty much vanilla and powder to me. But I have a bottle of it. Seems like a nice change up from what I usually wear.

Yep, and it lasts even longer than Racquets, at least on me. I'm wearing Racquets today, as it turns out.

I like it, but I prefer Endymion.

Endymion lasts so long that it's ALMOST annoying. Sometimes I can still get a whiff of it the NEXT MORNING! It always lasts until the late evening, even with one small spray.

So, after using both of these fragrances a couple of times, I like them both, but the Elixir is really starting to appeal to me. It's definitely moving up the "I may buy a bottle" list (although I still need to make sure my wife doesn't hate it).
