Dottie Shaving Bowl VS Dirty Bird Bill Bowl

I'm torn between 2 different shaving bowl types. I'm guessing that most people won't have the 2 bowls to compare, but being that these are 2 completely different types of bowls, the lathering capabilities should be different.

Which type have you had more success with? The Dirty Bird Bill bowls have nothing but good reviews, so that's what I'm leaning towards.

Not sure if you are still interested in other options, but I'm very happy with my Sara's Lather Bowl in Slate. It's another handmade bowl with a texture and swirl at the bottom to aid in lather making. Vintage Blades has them in stock and ships pretty quickly.

That is a nice looking bowl and it's a perfect size. Personally, I prefer to have the thumb loop of the Bill Bowl so I don't drop it if my hands are wet or slippery, but then again, I'm notoriously clumsy.

I've considered both the Bill Bowl and Dottie, as well as The Mud Place mug, but after seeing Sara's bowl I think that's the way I want to go. Dimensions, etc., are what I've been looking for. My only question is whether the Vintage Blades ginger is the same as the brown on Sara's site.

I do like the handle on the Bill bowl and I almost didn't get the Sara bowl due to it not having one. In this case the finish of the bowl is a little rough so it doesn't get slippery. Hopefully that will keep me from dropping it but you never know. So far so good..

Dottie Bowl user here. It's my go-to bowl. Granted, I don't have experience with the Billy Bowl for an A/B comparison, but strictly for lathering purposes, the Dottie Bowl beats every other bowl/mug I've used (EJ apothecary mug, WCS hand-thrown bowl, G20 scuttle, Marvy mug)

So the lather stays put and doesn't go flinging off every which way? That was my concern; I like the looks of it otherwise -- that and it's different enough from the others.

I know what you're saying. Some people say that you get good lather from it, but do you loose some without the walls to keep it in?

Not at all. Of course, if I'm really whipping the lather, it'll creep up the side and (at times) overhang, but it certainly does not go flying. For whatever reason, pictures of this bowl make it look smaller in hand than it really is. It's a pretty big bowl.

Yes the lather stays in. The sides of the bowls are vertical enough to hold the lather in and you don't have to work hard at all to get tons of rich thick lather thanks to all the dots. The bowls is very comfortable to hold in one hand and work the brush with your other.
