Don't scrub with your brush

I suspect those instructions are a historic Simpson legacy designed to minimise warranty claims, and to encourage common sense brush usage. Mark Watterson, the MD of Simpson has stated, right here on B&B, that rotational brush strokes with light pressure, and without mashing the knot, are quite acceptable. It is excessive pressure that is the problem I think, more than the direction of the brush stroke.

So we now have permission from Simpson. (breathes a sigh of relief)

Sarcasm aside, does any of their printed literature advise against loading soap from the container? I know of no practical way to load from the container with a painting motion.

Their website has a blog post where they go into some detail as to the correct way to use your brush and soaps or creams.
  1. Use your secondary, peasant brush to load and scrub with
  2. Ring the silver bell beside the sink for your butler
  3. Take the Simpsons™ brush from the proffered silver tray and gently paint your lather
  4. Sip brandy from the same silver tray...
  5. Complete your shave
Quite simple, really!
