Does anyone else's Merkur Slant "eat" blades?

I've had the opportunity to try out the World's Most PIF'd Slant for the past few weeks, and I've noticed something odd about this razor. It seems that it "eats" blades. Every blade I tried in the Slant only gave me 3 shaves, with the exception of the last one, (a Lord Classic Super Stainless) which only yielded 2 shaves before it started tugging like crazy. :thumbdown

The weirdest one was a Kai. I've gotten upwards of 5 phenomenal shaves with this same blade in my Red Tip SS, but in the Slant, I was only able to get 3 comfortable shaves before the blade started pulling.

Am I just weird, or has anyone else experienced this?

Don't get me wrong. The vast majority of my shaves with the Slant were awesome. It's just odd that the longevity of the blades decreased so dramatically, seemingly due to the razor itself.

More folks here have stated that blades have a shorter life span in a more aggressive razor but I cannot confirm that myself.

Weird...I used a Slant/Feather/Kai combo exclusively for about 4 years or so and have never had this problem. I seem to get about 5 or 6 nice shaves out of each blade...sometimes more. I recently received the Sledgehammer Slant from a member and seem to have the same results shave-wise and blade-wise.

Have had no issues with blade longevity in my merkur slant vs other razors. Some fellas around here insist that you can actually extend a blade's life by transferring it to a slant and getting a couple more quality shaves.

I replace blades after 3 shaves (Slants and TTO's) so I can't say if it eats blades or not.

Still can't more than 2 good shaves out of a Feather (Slants and TTO's).

I've been shaving since 1975 and have used many types of razors and blades. I have also noticed that a more aggressive shave will dull the blade much quicker. The old Gillettes and new Edwin Jaggers are milder and seem to have very good blade longevity.
Finding a blade that you really like can also make a big difference. The review board on this webste is a good place to consider which blades to get. Right now, I'm using the Lord green label stainless blades. They do alright for me.

I had that. I sold the slant because of that. I found the Open comb to do a very close job and the life of the blade wasn't changed.

I found odd that any blade performed well in the slant but none of them were passing 2 shaves. It's still a great performer and I will recommend the slant...

At least, I don't have that issue with my straights razors!

I change my blades after 2 shaves, no matter what brand of blade or which razor I'm using.

I don't see the reason behind leaving a blade in use until its worn out ... I change them long before that, so I always put a sharp edge to my beard.

With that said, I don't notice my Slant (39C) nor any razor wears out blades any faster than the others in my rotation.

I was actually finding the opposite...

I was getting more shaves per blade with the slant. I gues it's a case of ymmv....
