Do you put a lid on soap after use?

I am using two soaps these days, one vintage Old Spice which I keep in a plastic Noxema jar. The other is a Geo. Trumpers lavander in a wooden bowl.

Should I cover the soaps after each use, or leave the top off and allow them to dry during the day?

Either way is fine. I use 1 cup Anchor glass bowls with lids. They are in most Target or supermarkets. Their less than $3. Some people just have the soap in a mug or bowl and leave them uncovered.

I don't think shaving soap is that much different from regular soap, and think of all the bars of hand soap that sat uncovered in a soap dish next to the sink for many years until recently when we all started using liquid soap in pump bottles.

I leave my shaving soap open during the day to dry out, then at the end of the day I cover it and put it away, since I usually rotate soaps and creams, and may not return to a soap for a week or longer.

The only time I do more than just sit the lid loosely on the container (because I need a place to put it) is if I'm changing soaps. Otherwise it's easier to leave it loose...

I leave 'em open right after use and then cover up for cabinet storage that evening or the next day. Not sure what I'm achieving by doing this, though!

I usually cover my soaps after use. All the bowls I have (MWF, C&E, Cade) came with lids and I use them. I haven't tried leaving them uncovered, so I don't know if there would be a difference. But covering them has worked out fine.

I've milled a few soaps into a few dessert dishes and with no lid. They've held up great and smell the same.

Same here Chris, including my objective for doing so. I think it's a mental (or is it anal :001_tongu) thing for me to dry it out prior to covering it.

My soaps are usually dry enough by the end of my shave for me to pop the lid back on. I don't mind if there's still a little bit of moisture left, the lids aren't air-tight anyways.

I save the unused lather and place that on top of my puck of soap. This does multiple things. One is save you money. Your pucks of soap now last a lot longer than normal. Two is that it make your next lather easier to build. The dehydrated lather only needs a bit of water and afew swirl to rebuild that creamy lather. This saves time and gets you a much better lather than if you would build it each time.

Due to this, I don't cover my bowls but I do place them in the cabinet.

Personally, I ONLY cover my soap if it is in a container that has a cover.
If there is no cover for the container, I don't cover it.
That method seems to work pretty well for me. :biggrin1:

I shave at night, leave the cover off overnight and put it back on first thing the next morning, when the bathroom has the faint hint the soap.

+1. If it comes with a cover, I cover it. Then again, all that I have came with covers. Take that for what you paid for it. :D

nope. only put a lid on it for travel.
infact i don't even have a proper soap bowl yet; i keep mine in a sawed-off plastic cup, and i build my lather in a little plastic container. when i get proper gear, i'll look for stuff that allows this type of nesting storage.
