Do some brushes become less effective on soap over time?

So I've been using the B&B Kent LE 08 for about 8 or 9 months now as my only brush. The problem is it seems to have suddenly become less effective on soaps??? I've given it a Borax bath per the instructions here but my soap lather seems to be sub par for some reason....creams are still fine. In your opinion is this an I.O. (idiot operator) error or should I consider purchasing another brush strictly for soaps?

I've tried face and bowl lathering. I soak the brush in warm wather while I shower, put a tiny bit of water along the top of the puck, shake the brush till no longer dripping, and load the puck for 45+ seconds. I'm using Pen's English Fern tallow first. Thoughts?

you probably need to shampoo the brush to get rid of soap residue and other stuff. Use a clarifying shampoo. Wash it then repeat, and dry. You will be amazed!

Baby shampoo and a diluted vinegar rinse is all I've done to my brushes. I know many do the borax thing, and I don't know why, but something in my mind just says it wouldn't work as well. Don't ask why, just a gut feeling and for me that's what I do. Definitely not saying it isn't, just my position on borax.

I suggest using the cleaning method at Em's place. It uses vinegar, and the vinegar gets rid of the soap residue. It can be found here.

Thanks guys, I'll give these cleaning methods a shot. The B&B LE 08 is a special brush so I wasn't too excited about the prospects of having to get a special "soap brush". We'll see how it goes.
