disposable-blade straights

I seem to be destroying my blade too easily!

My technique sucks.

I seem to have come to an interesting point though, in regards to the myriad of straight razor options available to me: full hollow/half hollow aside, there seem to be two types of disposable blade straights.

I've heard tell repeatedly that shavettes cause horrible injury and double-edge blades aren't made for straight shavers. I bought one anyway, maybe I'll use it, maybe I'll kill myself with it, who knows?

But the other side of this is I've also heard the Feather straight razors work decently. I also have an Artist Club solid brass coming, with ProGuard and Professional blades. I've looked at the two spe......t(*) razors as well; the Prebeau actually got my eye originally, because it's designed for women, which... I mean, it's a straight razor, ***? Oh, and also the blade is wire wrapped at points to prevent you from killing yourself with it. While shaving your legs.

Is it worth retreating to the RG for a few cycles until I'm comfortable with the straight, and then getting my Astrale honed up again and trying to get to work with that? As for the Shavette, my passing interest in "anything I can shave my face with" drives that, along with being able to use my double edge blades in a different way; but the Feather seems to be a completely different option, and potentially a viable one in itself.

In any case, I'm still trying to grok how my straight razor got me bad shaves due to my horrible technique; and in some cases pulled the hair painfully due to dullness or technique; yet at the same time gave me the least-- often NONE-- irritation of anything I've used. I want that. I'll get better with it, but I want it now. Nevermind I'm back on the 1904 and I find using it pretty boring and lifeless.

Disposable blade "straights" use a blade very similar to blades used in safety razors, so if you were getting irritation from your safety razors...

Also, the technique of the dispo-blade items I've heard is quite different. It's not that they are any more dangerous than a real straight, they are just used a little differently.

Oddly enough, I've gotten the best, closest, least irritating shaves from a cross between a straight and a safety razor: the Rolls Razor. Just not as enjoyable a shave as with a straight, and more work than a safety razor.

Been through all that, but yeah, very useful. I've managed to slip the razor into my ear and then stroke down (yow), and also tend to thoroughly examine the shave and touch up with a DE if I really need it (say, I'm going out somewhere and really want a good shave).

I need to not destroy my blade edge is what. Did that immediately.

I have been using the Feather AC for a while now and I get excellent results from it. I have used the "Professional" and the "Super Pro" blades and I have come to favor the Supers. Just use a very low angle and very low pressure. Stay aware of where the point(corner) of the blade is and you should have some good shaves.
I have heard it said alot that the Feather is too sharp on the first shave, but I find it to be just fine. I usually get four real good shaves from a Super and if I wanted I could probably get a couple more. I usually just change them out after four.
Good Luck,
Mike

I got a Dove Shavette a few week ago and find it to be different than a straight. I've tried the broken double edge and the long Persona. I'm more comfortable with a regular straight. Need more practice I guess.
