Display Cases

I've been looking for quite sometime for a display case other than the Thierrs Issard ones because I already had two 7 razor display cases and needed another and at $140~ a pop I wasn't going to be getting another. These have been the most painful projects because I use CA Hot Stuff and working with gloves is not easy. So a lot blood, sweat and just a tiny bit of tears have gone into these. It was still dusty when I took the pictures.

So here's my latest contraption display cases made of cherry:
18 razor count
12 razor count

This is one I gave to Josh to give it a whirl and tell me what he thinks and take better pictures.

Any comments and critique is much appreciated.

Looks great, Mark.

What type of magnets are you using to hold the razors in place?

Thank you

Earth magnets in 3mm on this one and 5mm on my cases I made for myself. Let me tell you I used so many of them because they are so strong that they would lift off the setting and glue themselves to the others around with the CA and all. I felt that was the only way to really get them to stay and not risk dropping any razors, and let me tell you no razor is coming off!

All razors work fine but I have trouble with the custom scales razors because some are thicker and larger than others. The normal factory, new or vintage work great and at any size. You just have to move it around a bit to find the proper placement. The razor hanging there a bit is an ivory Le Grelot I took off from another razor and the pin is loose but I'm afraid to tighten since the scale is so old and slightly cracking.

I was originally trying to cut slits along the side but the wood along the inside is too thin and was cracking when I was making the cuts.

My only concern would be the magnets pulling on the blade overtime to de-center the blade in the scales. I'm going to try out some alternatives to magnets.

You've motivated me to give it a go as well, Mark. I'm going to attempt to do a 50-75 wall case. :thumbup1:

I've had them mounted for almost 5 months now and haven't noticed any issues with the blade not being center which was my concern but the blades are closed and don't notice any torque at the pivot pin which would be my concern.

It's a lot of fun, even with the frustration so go for it. We'll see who loses the most blood:lol:

I really do like the workmanship on the case. I only offer this following link because you said you had been looking for cases, so please don't think I'm offering it to take away from your good work. I use the type of pen display cases/trays this site has for many of my razors.

Thank you Bill. I was looking at pen cases up and down this desert and all I could find is ones that the dividers or more of a lip as opposed to what that displayed is, so the blade didn't say up straight and always to the side. That one is nice and I tried making something like that but it is extremely difficult for me to make the cuts so small, I'm more of a 90 degree cut kind of guy:lol:

But at least this way you get to view the entire blades profile instead of just a view of the spine:biggrin1:

Did you click on the pic to go to their site to see what else they have?

Mark,
And where were you when I was desperately looking for display cases?

I finally settled with Thiers-Issard (not the hanging case)

Beautiful work my man

Robert

Bill,
Do these things fit all shapes and sizes of razors? i.e., 8/8 etc...

What about thicker scales? The reason I ask is that the Thiers Issard 7-day display case I got has standard spacings and some of my scales seem to be a bit thicker than the spacings in the case.

Thanks,
Robert
