Dense or fluffy lather?

Okay, let's be real here for a second. To protect you face when shaving, what type of lather do you try to make?

1) huge fluffy pillowy lather? (Lather porn)
2) light thin lather resembling frothed milk (cappuccino lather)
3) thick heavy dense paste-like lather (lather butter)
4) insert your own description

Please discuss.

Mine always seems on the lighter thinner side, maybe a little thicker.

I've never had lather look as fluffy as some of the lather pics I've seen on here

I don't care. What matters is how it feels, not how it looks.

You'll feel it soon enough when the lather is too wet or too dry.

I like mine thin and runny but slick. I find facelathering perfect for this. Bowl lathering makes the lather too fluffy. Thinner/runnier lather is easier to apply and easier to see where i'm shaving.

Somewhere between options 2 and 3. I would describe it as meringue-like. I like it fairly dense for cushion, but not so dense as to be dry and not provide ample lubrication. Some creams are better for this than others, with T&H UC probably being the best.

Yep, that's pretty much what I do - lots of soap, not too much water.

It is a balance. Over time you'll learn what you like best. I don't like too wet, but I certainly don't want too dry.

I aim for a yogurt thick lather that is nice and slick.

Slick Lather Butter(SLB) = dense wet foam that will have a nice slick cushion.
