Recently a friend of mine was lamenting the fact that his brush was not in great shape. He had a Tweezerman brush and the hairs were becoming less pliable and "ratty" so to speak. He related to me that the Tweezerman was the only brush he had ever used. He was looking for an inexpensive replacement brush. I told him rather than buy a mass-marketed brush, buy a handle from me, and I would gift him a "Mystery Knot" and it would be a far better performer. He thought, that would be interesting since he would rate the performance of a brush without any preconceived biases from reading about hair types on forums. I told him that it was a Badger knot and nothing more. He paid for the handle and went away for the vacation that he had planned with his family. I made the handle and finished the brush while he was away on vacation. Upon his return, I delivered the brush and I told him to tell me how it worked out for him after a week of use.
A week later, I talked to him about the brush. He said that it was soft at the tips, but not mushy. He was used to the scritchy and scratchy Tweezerman. The feeling from new brush was something he was not used to, but liked very much. He stated that it was much nicer than the Tweezerman was even when new. He liked the new brush in terms of grip and size. I told him to enjoy his new brush and the mystery knot. He stated that he was really enjoying his first custom brush. So I present the custom with the "mystery knot" for your viewing ... and the knot pedigree will remain a mystery that only I know the answer to.
