Curious about after shave talc

I have been shaving since I was 14/15 years old. Since I am 64 now that means shaving for about 49 years. I have always used the wet shave method and most of the time with a double edge razor. In order to try and save time when working, I tried most of the new gimmicks that Schick and Gillette produced to get my money; including the multi-blade razors. It has never taken long, but I always return to the double edge razor, brush and bowl. Since I retired five years ago, I have more time to spend shaving and no longer experiment with gimmicks. My wife has even commented that it now takes me as long to get ready as it does her.

Having recently joined B&B I have found the site and it's members' opinions fascinating. Consequently, I would like to post a question concerning shave talc.

I have used after shave lotion since starting shaving. I also use after shave talc to smooth the skin and remove the after shave shine. It really ticked me when Old Spice and Mennen no longer offered shave talc. Over the years I have used many talcs, but now use Kings Talc. When I can find them, Aqua Velva Talc, English Leather Talc, and Old Spice Talc are also used. The more expensive talcs that come with the high price colognes just don't seem to cut it for me.

How many of you use talc as a final finish and what talc do you use?

Maybe one day I can compile a list of available talcs and how they rate.

I have used Clubman Talc on my barber's recommendation and while it does work great, I personally feel the possible health side affects of using talc outweigh the benefits it provides. So unless you absolutely can't go without using talc, I'd recommend finding some other type of aftershave type product that isn't cancer causing.

"...forced to inhale talc for 6 hours a day, five days a week over at least 113 weeks..."

So don't do that.

That doesn't mean that using a product with negative side effects for many years just in smaller amounts can't harm you, that is just how studies are done in lab environments, to speed up the process. Test animals don't have equal lifespan to that of humans, plus researchers don't have 50 years to spend on one study.

I'm not saying talc will definitely give you health issues, but I do think it is at least worth knowing about it's possible side effects.
