What's new

crazy idea? or crazy idea!

I'm out of town and I have been doing a lot of waiting outside of stores. And in boredom an idea sparked. I have a Fatboy that the safety bars are bent 90° down. Is it possible to take a NEW baseplate and modify it to replace the Fatboy baseplate and create an adjustable OC TTO?
As I'm unable to to hold these in my hands right now, add in the fact I'm not smart enough to know better, thought I would throw this out to the wisdom of the forum.

I was looking at the break down of the Fatboy here and thought could you remove the blade platform and put on a NEW baseplate? Of course the baseplate would have to be notched and such to match the original one and the silver soldered on.

To have an open comb fatboy, you'd have to create an open comb baseplate that would allow the blade lifter to pass throu it.

Bartender, bring me whatever he's having ...

Is the base plate of the Fatboy the same size as the NEW baseplate. Also I imagine the head curve is different as well. How is a Sheraton baseplate compared to a NEW. Or mod a Sheraton base plate to fit the blade platform of the Fatboy.
For the record, no alcohol is involved in this thread. Only the numbing of the brain caused by being in a mall way too long.

The fatboy ain't fit for this project, the adjuster part make it impossible to have both Open comb & adjustable features. The only adjustable razor I think could be modified into a OC would be a Toggle and I won't fall into this MADNESS ! Just to think of it, Im feeling unwell : /

I have a wounded Fatboy so that is where I was starting. Could the safety bars be cxur off and open comb be put on?
For a moment just close your eyes and picture it.....replated in black chrome.

OOOHHH, i knew you was under the influence of shopping overkill at the Mall

I think the best you could do is design and machine a new part with a different guard bar design to retrofit to the razor. A hell of a lot of r&d work.

If the safety bar is still attached but bend down it would be so much easier to just make a hybrid toothbar like the R41. You'd use the old safety bar but just solder some tooth on top of it. Use silver solder or at least lead free and it would be easier to make a toothbar and solder that on than it would be to put on several individual tooth on there.

OK, got home and spent some time with my razors, which helped clear my mind. I ask forgiveness from the group for my temporary insanity.
