Coticule Edge

Until tonight, I haven't shaved on a Coti edge in a long while.

Tonight, I was testing out a new 5x2 slice of Belgium that came to me via a friend.
I had previously set the bevel on a small bit of spessartine joy that I just picked up from Jarrod - tonight I just wanted to see how things would go.
After a bit of testing, louping, slurrying, etc - I decided to just finish the edge on this new found piece of garnet encrusted rock.
Honestly - the bevel isn't quite what I would normally call 'done' but it seemed close enough to take it for a test drive.
Maybe 15-20 minutes later - I had a good edge, 20 minutes after that I finished a great shave.

Life is good.
This little stone rocks.
I'm going to redo the bevel for real and push the edge a bit next time.
Honestly - the edge now is nearly as keen/smooth as anyone would need it to be, but I want to see just how far the little rock can take it.

The day before this stone went a friend, I honed a Wostenholm Original Pipe as a farewell. As my friend described, my shave too was keen and smooth as can be. Shaving with JNat edges almost exclusively can spoil you to a degree but there's nothing nicer than a properly honed coticule edge.

Come on, no pics Gamma? We love coti-porn.

As much as I play with other hones, I always find myself keeping coticules in my rotation. I think the issue is many of us don't eek out the last 2% of their ability. A proper coticule edge sure is amazing.

I have to learn these Coticules, soon or later. Would like to try the dilucot method after bevel is set on a 1K stone.

It's hard to beat a good coticule edge although I do use other finishers I seem to eventually go back to the coti.

same here mate for some reason i alays end up going back to coticule, i have alovely escher but i decided i will sell as i'll stick with what i no best ( coticule)

IMO a properly honed coticule edge has no equal. Gary does a stellar job on his coticules. I am still hit and miss, but loving the experience.

Marco-

You can set the bevel on a coticule as well. Some will get you there faster than others but you can, in theory, avoid the 1K stone step and set the bevel on a coti. The dilucot method is the only method I have tried but I get good results with it on my La Dressante.

I like a lot of different edges. I prefer to hone on Jnats though. I feel more engaged with the process with those stones.

this is the stone I used for this edge, the one in front.

I'm sorry I think you have your coti confused with a brick. Seriously that thing is thick. Maybe it's the perspective?

Chevy's doing great, put her up for the winter. New transmission and drove the crap out of her this summer.

Glad the Chevy's running well... very cool.

It's a little brick-like in a way, just shy of an inch thick. Only 5 x 2" though. A little brick.
