Cordovan shell walkin horse with pics

I was checking out Jarrod's website "The Superior shave" the other day and ran into these genuine cordovan shell stops. I have a Walkin Horse split side that I really like and I have always wanted to try a shell strop so a few minutes later this one was on its way to me. Jarrod is a fantastic guy to do business with and a great source of information as well. Everything was packed great and arrived in great shape. Thought I would post up a few pictures so folks could check it out. I haven't even tried it out yet.

I have one of these and it's a beautiful and awesome strop if you like a light draw. It takes some getting used to because the leather is so thin and the sensation of stropping on it unique. When I got mine only cotton was available as a second component, so you're fortunate to get one with linen.

Jarrod is indeed a great vendor with amazing service.

Very nice! I am curious how these compare to, say, a Kanayama....I have the latter, but I would love to compare the 2...anyone have any exp. with both?

The Kanyama leather is worked by the maker for the express purpose of razor stropping. The Cordovan leather is used for many things, including razor strops. Both should and do make very nice strops.

Thank you! It is working beautifully. Light smooth draw. I have nothing but good things to say about Walkin Horse.

I have one and like it a lot. It has a very light draw, so much that when there's a speck of dust, you feel it. No break in really needed, whereas my WH horsebutt gets better and better with repeated use (light draw there). I agree that Jarrod is a great guy to deal with and very knowledgeable about many things.

P.S., is that a Dirty Bird scuttle next to the strop?

I got that scuttle from Georgetown Pottery. They make two sizes. That is the larger size, but I have owned the smaller one in the past. I have given several as gifts and my last one went to my daughters boyfriend when I turned him from the dark side. Fellas are just amazed at how their skin clears up and the bumps go away when they learn how to shave the way their grandfathers did.
