Comparable to Super Speed but with longer handle?

Guys, I'm a recent (as of today :D) d/e shaving convert. I loved the whole experience, but there's one thing. The 1963 Super Speed I just acquired...well the handle's just too short. I've got big hands and I've used long-handled disposables or Mach3 most of my life. Is there a razor comparable to the Super Speed in performance and reliability but with a longer handle..say 1"-1.50" longer? Even a slightly bigger diameter would be ok. Thanks.

You might look for a long handle super adjustable if you want to stay with a vintage razor, or I've found the Merkur 38c to be somewhat similar to an super speed but has a longer, and larger diameter handle

The Schick Krona, it does not look as nice as the SS but the shave is as mild but I think a bit closer.

Feather Popular. Longer handle but a similar -IMO- shave to the Super Speed. I love them both but the SS handle is just too doggone short, a la OP in this thread. There's no doubt in my mind the 49-year-old Gillette is mechanically superior but neither is the Japanese-made Popular anyone's idea of a piece-of-junk razor. It's inexpensive, relatively, and in any event would be a fine traveling piece whose untimely loss would not cause consternation.

Worth consideration at any rate, I suggest.

Also agree on the lady Gillette. The gold and the blue do not look distinctly feminine, though that doesn't matter anyway. It's a razor.

Thanks guys. I'll check into these. I couldn't give a rat's behind about using a Lady Gillette...as long as it does the job I'll use it. There's always paint anyway. :) The Krona looks cheap but from what I've read it's a good shaver. I couldn't go with the Knack because I'd get "My Sharona" in my damn head every time I shaved.

Thanks guys. I'm looking at the Lady G and the Super Adjustable now. Whew!.....I feel a dose of RAD coming on! :)

So guys I got lucky the other day. My Aunt gifted me my Uncle's 1976 Super Adjustable in excellent condition. I shaved it last night. I think the 3 setting was comparable, if not a slight bit more aggressive than my 63 SS. I tried a 4 setting and it was too much for me but I'm still new to d/e so cranked it back to 3. It was an excellent shave. I noticed the SS has better balance. The balance point on the SA is right about where the setting mechanism is but I don't really want to hold there in case I break the mechanism. I do have small rare-earth magnets so I put one on the end of the SA and its balance is much better. I think it'll be better with the balance point now lowered down the handle. We'll see how the next shave goes...

Just shaved tonight with my long-handle Super Adjustable. I keep coming back to that one, and I think it's because of the long handle. I have a Slim, and it's fine, but the longer handle of the SA just seems to suit me better.

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised that I don't like the longer handle. Even after putting the magnet at the end to balance out the handle it's not working for me. I reverted back to my Super Speed yesterday and will continue using it for the time being. I just picked up a 55 SS flare and will gift my brother it. He's tired of $$$ of the Mach3, Fusion, and the garbage disposables too. After telling him about my great experiences using the d/e he's wanting to try it too. It's amazing....I never thought I'd actually want to shave but now it's no longer a chore....it's like a pleasurable ritual now. :)

I agree as well. I started shaving with an old hand-me-down blue Lady Gillette when I was about 13-14, and still have it 25+ years later. A black SS has taken over as my primary razor, but I still find the longer handle of the Lady Gillette to be much more comfortable. Lately I've been thinking about picking up a 38C or 47C and retiring the old girl. I think she's earned it.

FWIW, I picked up a 68 Lady Gillette to try. I actually like it more than my long handled SA but still I like the Super Speed the most. I tried the 55 SS flare tip I got for my brother. Only difference I can see is the crossbar(?) stands just proud of the doors when they're closed, whereas my 63 the crossbar is flush with its doors. Other than that, both shave great. Now I'll try converting my sister and give her the LG and see how she likes it. When I told her about my d/e experiences she immediately asked if she could borrow my SS to try on her legs. Maybe another convert on the way. :)
