I've just started collecting vintage DEs and yesterday I picked up what I believe is a 48-50 Super Speed. At the same time I got a 1965 date Slim adjustable. I was pleased to see that the Slim had a nice 1/4 turn at the end of tightening.
My question is this: does the Super Speed have the same action, or do you just tighten it? The Super Speed was in worse condition and I've had it soaking overnight. Might be a silly question as I guess there's no reason to have a spring in a non adjustable razor, but I wanted to ask for clarification.
I just started in this hobby a few weeks ago but it's really bitten me. I picked up a plastic Wilkinson Sword DE at a supermarket in Germany to try out DE shaving. When I got back I saw the Van Der Hagen adjustable in the commissary so I tried that one. That led the way to the vintage Gillettes. So far my favorite is my R2 adjustable, which is no longer black but still works great.
