Coffee Roasters (companies, not equipment)

I have ordered fresh roasted beans from several coffee roasters and found one I like in particular but there are so many of them I know I'll never get to sample but a few.

Does anyone have any recommendations? The one I found I like is

Johnson Brothers: http://johnsonbrotherscoffee.com/

Others I've tried:

Cafe Britt: http://www.cafebritt.com/ (They have wonderful chocolate covered beans and powdered cocoa. Heard about these guys from the TV show How It's Made.)
Dancing Goats: http://www.dancinggoats.com/
Henley Von Roastingburg: http://hvrcoffeeroasting.com/
Gillies Coffee: http://www.gilliescoffee.com/ (In business since 1840. "America’s oldest coffee merchant")
Austin Roasting Company: http://www.austinroastingcompany.com/ (Local to my area so pretty much next day shipping.)

... and probably two or three others I have lost track of.

I brew in a Technivorm KBT 741. I was using a Yama Vacuum Brewer (8 Cup) but could not get consistent results.

I like Babys coffee in the florida keys. Their claim is that they are the southern most coffee roaster in the US.

Regardless of where they roast, their Babys Private Buzz is a good high octane (caffeine) coffee, good for a quick morning wakeup.

Their Killer Joe and Death by Coffee are good too.

I like PT's and Intelligentsia. To me, one of the most important considerations is your location. Since I normally roast my own, I'm a stickler for freshness. If I order from a roaster on either coast, shipping time goes to 3-4 days, so the beans spend their best days in a mail truck. Picking a place in your own state, or an adjacent one will (hopefully) eliminate that problem.

Both yummy, both on the internet.:thumbup1:

I like Ristretto Roasters, great quality, fresh and consistent results.

There is a sticky here for a bigger list of coffee and tea vendors.

Which beans can you recommend from Blue Bottle?

They are all pretty good. I used to get beans from them when I visited the city. Now I roast my own so it's been a couple years. When I visit now I drink a lot of espresso/espresso drinks. Their espresso blends are really nice. Last time I got an IMV on the siphon machine and it was nice as well.

Saint Louis has quite a few coffee roasters, but Kaldi's is head and shoulders above all of them. You've got to try the Burundi Kinyovu, in a French Press (or it sounds like your coffee machine might make French Press-like coffee).

Well, here's an old thread!

I tried a few different roasters and settled in on one for my everyday buys: Austin Roasting Company.

This is in part because they are local to me so coffee usually gets ground and shipped the day I order and arrives FedEx the next day -- with Free shipping. Free shipping is with 4 bags or more.

In addition to the above I like:

1. They sell in one pound bags. None of this 10-12 ounce stuff!
2. Their coffee is really good and is roasted perfectly to the degree they advertise.
3. They have a good selection of coffees from all over. Not everything is always in stock but check back often and see new/different selections come and go.
4. They occasionally throw in a free gift. Just got a nice coffee mug today but don't expect that on your first order -- I have been ordering every month or so for a while so maybe they decided to be extra nice to me. (It was a big surprise.) I have also received free coffee samples with my order. You can actually order a 4-oz free sample if you pay the $4.95 shipping (see item F-S).

I say give them a try! At least get a free sample.

I have an Austin Roasting Company t-shirt that Jess sent me a long time ago.
