clay cookers

I found this clay cooker at a second hand store for $4 when I was looking for razors.
Anyone have any good recipes for something like this

My Mum used to have a "chicken brick" like that! :biggrin1:

Makes lovely, moist roast chicken

Will hunt for a recipe but if I remember right it's just a case of altering the cooking temp that you'd use for a roast chicken.

Wow, I never really thought about a clay Dutch oven. I sure do love my cast iron one, though.

What advantages/disadvantages does clay have compared to ceramic, cast iron or stainless?

More fragility seems obvious, but does the porosity and mass make it cook differently? Also, it wouldn't double as a saucier for pan gravies or sautee duties.

I'm intrigued...

First, the reason why you got one for only $4: clay pots must be soaked completely in water for 30 minutes before using. Then it must go into a cold oven and brought up to temperature or it will shatter. The clay is not glazed, so it will release steam into the food thus keeping it moist.

Here is a simple, but great recipe for 40 clove chicken:

1 whole chicken cut into 8 pieces
1/2 cup olive oil
10 sprigs fresh thyme
40 peeled cloves garlic
Salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Season chicken with salt and pepper. Toss with 2 tablespoons olive oil and brown on both sides in a wide fry pan or skillet over high heat. Remove from heat, add oil, thyme, and garlic cloves. Cover and bake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Remove chicken from the oven, let rest for 5 to 10 minutes, carve, and serve with french bread.

Actually, I am fond of eating food and cooking. It is easy & wonderfully delicious! Iwill try to make it at my home and then I'll give you my review about this recipe which made it good or not.
