Sardines

I don't like the smell, the look or anything else about them. Even when we are in Portugal and the sardines are twice the size it simply means twice the torture.

As much as I like the appearance of Buster's plate of food everything on the dish apart from the crackers would make me ill. Just add spring onions, peppers and aubergine and I would be off to the cemetery, post haste.

I like sardines and other seafood in a can. I tend to look for some with low sodium as possible. Polar kippers have only 100mg. I recently got a brand called season with no salt added In water. Not the best quality in my opinion but I use them to make a sandwich like tuna salad. Mayo, onion, capers etc.

Dinner tonight was KO mackerel in olive oil.

My favorite kind of sardine is the Brisling . Little fellas in oil. The smoked Polar brand is very nice. Tiny Tots are also good. One winner I recently tried was fried Dace with black beans. It’s an Asian product and let me tell you! served on a bowl of rice is amazing. 🤯

tinned seafood is kind of having a surge in popularity. Check out this YouTube channel.

The Fishwife smoked mackerel and smoked rainbow trout are among my tinned fish favorites!!!

I cracked some black pepper over the tin of King Oscar sardines in olive oil and lemon. I’ll snack on these all day!

Carrs crackers are just the best, interesting that you can buy them in the US.

If you can find Carrs Cheese Melts, they are perfect with a selection of cheeses with some chutney, perhaps a glass of India Pale Ale or a good port.

Carr's have been my favorite for quite some time. They are available at most of my local grocery stores. I've not seen the Carr's Cheese Melts but I'll keep an eye out for them. Thanks, friend.

I used to enjoy the Trader Joe's sardines in harissa as well. I don't shop there anymore though. The traffic in that area is awful and it's a challenge just to get in and out of the parking lot.

Forgive me for topic drift from sardines to other tinned fish.

I made a kipper sandwich the other day. Polar kipper snack on sourdough with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, alfa spouts. I was really happy with that lunch.

Another fish in a can that I recently discovered is fried dace. A bowl of white rice with fried dace with black beans. Add a side of Bok Choi or something and you have a tasty meal. I was surprised how much I liked this. I think it’s the salted black beans that elevate the flavors. Highly recommended.
