Sardines

Sardines are a high quality source of protein. For awhile I favored Kroger brand sardines...before I realized they are canned, or tinned, with soybean oil.

I am of the opinion that men should avoid soybean-based foods due to the presence of phyto-estrogens. Now I take care to insure it's olive oil.

Amazing! I literally just started to get interested in sardines. Love the King Oscar brisling sardines and mackerel. Gonna try the Wild Planet sardines from Costco to see if I can save a bit of money. For an occasional treat I'm tempted to try Nuris. I also get a kick out of watching the "Canned Fish Files w/ Matthew Carlson" channel on Youtube. Guy's a hoot!

Just ate half of these. Half a water cracker, half a sardine, and a Manzanilla olive. Sardines purchased in Porto last February. We have an assortment of tinned seafood to try!

I shaved a fortune
When I was a kid, our parents shipped us off for to "help" my Dad's dad, my grandfather, work his gold mine in the mountains around Helena, Montana... Two weeks... I loved parts of it... I didn't enjoy using an outhouse... and I hated the sardines he made us eat..... Back then, he bought them in mustard or ketchup.... I think... I'm not sure about the ketchup... but I hated them in mustard and the other choice wasn't to my liking either.

As a result, I had an aversion to sardines until my wife brought home the King Oscar brand just a few weeks ago now. We were trying to fill the void as we moved away from canned Albacore Tuna...... As I'm sure you know and has been discussed here.. The higher you go on the ocean food chain, the more mercury ends up in the larger fish... Sardines are at the low end of the food chain.... I like them now... I have a can every other day or so for a late night snack, after dinner.

Sardines are good for you. They are a good source of omega 3 fatty acids and other good things. I buy the ones in olive oil, pour out that oil and put in some fresh EVOO. I also like them cooked with chili peppers, or fried with chili peppers. Smoked are also good. I eat them with rice or bread. I can't get saltines over here. Yes, I know. It is a wasteland. I can't get graham crackers, either. Well, back to the topic. Sardines are a good healthy meal or snack.

I like sardines and other seafood in a can. I tend to look for some with low sodium as possible. Polar kippers have only 100mg. I recently got a brand called season with no salt added In water. Not the best quality in my opinion but I use them to make a sandwich like tuna salad. Mayo, onion, capers etc.

Dinner tonight was KO mackerel in olive oil.

My favorite kind of sardine is the Brisling . Little fellas in oil. The smoked Polar brand is very nice. Tiny Tots are also good. One winner I recently tried was fried Dace with black beans. It’s an Asian product and let me tell you! served on a bowl of rice is amazing. 🤯

tinned seafood is kind of having a surge in popularity. Check out this YouTube channel.
